KPop Demon Hunters snags two Oscars nominations

KPop Demon Hunters fever continues to dominate into 2026

It continues to be a very good time to be a KPop Demon Hunters fan, with the gorgeously animated, ridiculously addictive sensation from Sony Animation and Netflix making waves even in 2026.

With two Golden Globes and a Critics Choice Award under its belt, it's no surprise that KPop Demon Hunters has been nominated for Best Animated Feature and Best Original Song with "Golden" at the 98th Academy Awards.

KPop Demon Hunters follows the story of all-girl Korean band Huntr/x members, Rumi, Zoey, and Mira who, by day act as superstar idols, belting out songs and selling out arenas, and by night, use their music to fight back the demons who want to cross over from their world and steal human souls. The girls' mission is to restore the Honmoon, a majestic, supernatural border that will seal the real world from the demon world for good. However, they face trouble when the demons form a unique counterattack, creating a boy band known as Saja Boys.

KPop Demon Hunters has been dominating on Netflix and Spotify ever since its June debut last year, and while the fervor isn't as high as back then, the love for the franchise hasn't died down completely. Only a couple of weeks ago, Ejae (Rumi), Rei Ami (Zoey), and Audrey Nuna (Mira), the singing voices of Huntr/x, performed a new cover of "Golden" on Jimmy Kimmel.

Even before we got into awards season, KPop Demon Hunters has been breaking records and snatching accolades, becoming the first all-women collective with a song at No.1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart since Destiny's Child's "Bootylicious" took the top spot in August 2001. However, it isn't just the film's music that has kept it relevant; it's also an enthralling and beautiful piece of animation, so much so that it surpassed Red Notice to become the most-watched Netflix Original. Not an easy feat.

Joining KPop Demon Hunters in Best Animated Feature included big names like Disney's Zootopia 2 and Elio. "Golden" was nominated alongside several other songs, such as Sinners' "I Lied to You."

The 98th Academy Awards will be televised on March 15, at 7 p.m. EDT/4 p.m. PDT. Will Huntr/x once more slay the competition? We can't wait to find out.
