For many up-and-coming gamers these days, oftentimes their first ever video game will be one or several of the dozens of LEGO titles released over the years.

Most of these games will be those developed by Traveller's Tales, such as the forthcoming LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight, but there are still many LEGO titles made by other developers, such as Studio Gobo's LEGO Horizon Adventures and Light Brick Studio's LEGO Voyagers.

10 LEGO Sets Based on Games Fans Regret Not Buying When They Were Still Easy to Find

These 10 video game LEGO sets used to be easily available, but now they're selling for more than double their original retail price.

While all LEGO games vary in features, gameplay, and overall quality, many of them still find their way into the hearts of millions of players worldwide, becoming comfort games for numerous generations.

This is due to many factors, such as film releases at the time, gaming trends, LEGO innovations, and even the state of the gaming industry itself. No matter what, each of the following games are beloved by thousands of people to this very day.

Long before TT Games became the studio standard to develop LEGO games, fans often had to play LEGO games only on the PC, with one of the most well-regarded being Templar Studio's Bionicle-based Mata Nui Online Game.

Aside from the Bionicle sets themselves, the Mata Nui Online Game was the first product to flesh out the fantasy, biomechanical world of Bionicle and allowed young fans to explore the engimatic island of Mata Nui themselves, albeit through the eyes of the Matoran Takua.

Despite being a fairly simple point-and-click game in terms of gameplay, MNOG became a fan-favorite game for thousands of players and played a large part in not just the success of Bionicle as a LEGO theme but with the revival of LEGO overall in the early 21st century.

While many other Bionicle video games released later in the 2000s and early 2010s, such as TT's own Bionicle Heroes, none of them reached the storytelling heights or innate charm that MNOG featured, and it's arguably still the best way to explore the world of Bionicle in video game form.

7 LEGO Dimensions

The Ultimate LEGO Crossover

Lego Dimensions Character Crossover

By 2015, the toys-to-life genre of games were virtually everywhere, having originally been popularized by the Skylanders series, but LEGO capitalized on this genre with their own unique take both in real life and in-game with LEGO Dimensions.

Like Skylanders and Disney Infinity before it, LEGO Dimensions is centered around the concept of having IRL figures appear in-game by having them placed on a portal, but this time the portal was made of LEGOs and the figures were LEGO minifigures, both from past themes and from franchises that were never adapted into LEGO before.

For example, LEGO Dimensions' starter pack came with minifigures of Batman, Gandalf, and Wyldstyle, but players can additionally purchase minifigures and little sets of Portal, Sonic the Hedgehog, The Simpsons, and more that can be played with in-game, oftentimes coming with their own unique levels.

While the toys-to-life genre of games today is virtually only kept alive by Nintendo's Amiibo, LEGO Dimensions was exciting for young gamers and LEGO fans alike, who always anticipated which major franchise and characters would be adapted into LEGO next through Dimensions.

6 LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga

An Open World Galaxy Far, Far Away

 The Skywalker Saga

In the late 2010s and early 2020s, Star Wars fans new and old alike were in a bit of a video game drought despite the plethora of new movies and shows being released. But one game that eventually helped relieve this drought was LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga.

LEGO Star Wars games are some of the most popular video games of all time, and following the release of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, LEGO, Lucasfilm, and TT Games strove to make a game adapting and celebrating all nine mainline Star Wars films with The Skywalker Saga.

For kids growing up with the sequel trilogy and parents introducing their children to Star Wars for the first time, The Skywalker Saga was a boon as they could not only play through all nine films in classic comedic co-op fashion, but play as over 300 different characters from across the galaxy.

The Skywalker Saga was additionally popular for fans of the Disney+ Star Wars shows as the game is so far the only official Star Wars title, aside from mobile games, that lets people play as The Mandalorian, Grogu, and members of The Bad Batch.

5 LEGO Batman 2: DC Super Heroes

A Perfect LEGO Sequel Title

DC Super Heroes Joker Robin Superman
LEGO Batman 2: DC Super Heroes

While 2008's LEGO Batman: The Videogame was the first title to allow players to embody a blocky Dark Knight, the first LEGO Batman game to be universally praised by gamers and DC Comics fans alike was its sequel, LEGO Batman 2: DC Super Heroes.

Unlike the previous game, LEGO Batman 2 didn't restrict people to play as only heroes and villains from Gotham City, with most playable characters just being suit variations of Batman and Robin, but instead expanded the roster to include a wide variety of heroes and villains from across the DC universe.

This included characters such as Superman, Wonder Woman, Green Lantern, Black Manta, and more, which not only made this a great Batman game, but also a fantastic Justice League title, especially for those who grew up on the classic DC animated series from the 1990s and 2000s.

LEGO Batman 2 was also TT Games' first proper attempt at making a more open world-focused game that would become commonplace and improved upon over years, allowing fans to freely explore Gotham City and a bit of Metropolis.

4 LEGO Harry Potter: Years 1-4

One of the Best Harry Potter Games

LEGO Harry Potter: Years 1-4

Despite being one of the most profitable and popular franchises of all time, there weren't that many great games set in the Harry Potter universe until 2010's LEGO Harry Potter: Years 1–4.

Released a few months before the debut of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows — Part 1, Years 1-4 was one of the last TT LEGO games to feature its classic slapstick comedic charm while still being one of the few games out there to fairly recreate the first four Harry Potter films, albeit in LEGO form.

For kids growing up on the HP films and books in the 2000s, Years 1–4 was the best way to relive Harry's journey at Hogwarts in familiar yet fun ways, such as being able to cast spells and craft potions on their own while being able to play through the first four films in complete online or local co-op.

While arguably better games set in the wizarding world of Harry Potter have released since Years 1–4 launched, notably Hogwarts Legacy, the LEGO Harry Potter games are still looked back on fondly today and hold up well with both Years 1–4 and LEGO Harry Potter: Years 5–7 having been ported to modern platforms in 2018 and 2024.

3 LEGO Jurassic World

Welcome to LEGO Jurassic Park

LEGO_Jurassic_World_Screenshot_3

The Jurassic Park and Jurassic World series of films are some of the highest grossing and critically acclaimed movies of all time, so naturally it was only a matter of time that they would be adapted into a LEGO video game with 2015's LEGO Jurassic World.

Released the same day as Jurassic World's theatrical debut, LEGO Jurassic World adapts the first four Jurassic films in LEGO form primarily utilizing audio from the aforementioned films with a few new lines from the cast of World.

While LEGO Jurassic World was easily the best Jurassic game released yet at the time thanks to how well it recreated iconic sequences from the films, what made it really stand out was the open world of Isla Nublar and Isla Sorna, where players can not only explore the islands freely but play as dinosaurs and custom hybrid dinosaurs.

For adults who grew up on the original Jurassic Park trilogy and kids who grew up alongside the new Jurassic World trilogy, LEGO Jurassic World was an absolute blast through and through, becoming one of the greatest dinosaur-focused games ever made.

2 LEGO Marvel Super Heroes

Assembling the LEGO Avengers

While LEGO Batman 2 showcased how well the iconic characters and world of the DC universe can work in a LEGO game, 2013's LEGO Marvel Super Heroes featured how well earth's mightiest heroes played in LEGO form.

Much like the prior Batman games, LEGO Marvel Super Heroes isn't directly based on any particular MCU film or comic storyline but is rather an original story featuring not just the Avengers but the Fantastic Four, X-Men, Guardians of the Galaxy, and more such as lesser known characters like Union Jack and Nightmare.

In a way, LEGO Marvel Super Heroes was the ultimate gaming love letter to Marvel's plethora of classic heroes and villains, with gamers being able to play as virtually anyone, complete with their own unique powers, such as Spider-Man's web shooters and Squirrel Girl's squirrels to defeat Doctor Doom, Loki, and Galactus.

While LEGO Marvel Super Heroes did receive a spinoff and a direct sequel, the original still has an innate fun charm that both fans who grew up reading Marvel comics in the late 20th century and kids growing up on the MCU films today would enjoy.

1 LEGO Star Wars: The Complete Saga

The Greatest LEGO Game of All Time

 The Game
LEGO Star Wars: The Complete Saga

Many LEGO games have influenced and shaped numerous childhoods over the years, but without a doubt, the most influential and well-rounded comfort LEGO game has got to be LEGO Star Wars: The Complete Saga.

A combination of TT Games' first LEGO titles, LEGO Star Wars: The Video Game and LEGO Star Wars II: The Original Trilogy, Complete Saga was the perfect game for young Star Wars fans to grow up on alongside the release of the prequel trilogy.

Complete Saga set the gameplay and storytelling standards every future TT LEGO game was based on and, despite being over 10 years old, its comedy and simplistic gameplay still holds up incredibly well today, arguably better than many other modern LEGO games.

Its simplicity was its greatest asset, as virtually anyone, children and adults alike, could pick up a controller and play through Complete Saga easily while still having a blast destroying droids, fighting Stormtroopers, and blasting enemy starfighters in a galaxy far, far, away.
