2025 was Magic's best year ever, and 2026 is off to a strong start

Lorwyn Eclipsed is now the fastest-selling original Magic: The Gathering set of all time, a milestone that emphasizes just how much Wizards of the Coast’s 33-year-old card game keeps growing — while also proving that the game doesn't need to rely on Universes Beyond crossovers to thrive.

During a Feb. 10 earnings call presenting Hasbro's financial results for Q4 and the full year for 2025, CEO Chris Cocks confirmed that Magic remains the tentpole brand for the company in terms of revenue to the tune of $1.7 billion last year. During his presentation, Cocks also confirmed that Lorwyn Eclipsed — which was released globally on Jan. 23 — is already the fastest-selling in-universe premier set ever, outpacing even last year's Tarkir: Dragonstorm. He also confirmed that the next most-recent set, November 2025's Avatar: The Last Airbender, is the third best-selling Universes Beyond set, behind The Lord of the Rings: Tales of Middle-earth and Final Fantasy.

Hasbro executives don't often discuss specific dollar amounts when it comes to individual Magic sets, though Cocks has previously cited the $200 million figure as a benchmark when comparing Final Fantasy and The Lord of the Rings: Tales of Middle-earth. The latter reached $200 million in sales over the course of six months, while Final Fantasy reportedly hit that mark in a single day. It's all but certain that Lorwyn Eclipsed sales are nowhere near this mark, however. While crossover sets have driven unprecedented revenue and player growth, Lorwyn Eclipsed suggests that Magic’s core fantasy settings are still capable of anchoring the game’s release calendar — and breaking records in their own right.

Cocks also confirmed that Magic at large had a record-breaking fourth quarter in 2025, growing sales by nearly 60 percent for the full year. Secret Lair also delivered its best quarter ever, as did backlist sales for previous sets. Across the board, fans and collectors can engage with the game in a variety of ways, and that's proving to be really lucrative for Hasbro. "We are building a system of play with multiple entry points, product types, and engagement paths, and that system is positioned to continue driving growth into 2026 and beyond," Cocks said.

Lorwyn Eclipsed arrived at a moment when Wizards appears more confident than ever in its release cadence, which has increased drastically in recent years. 2026 will have a total of seven sets, with Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles due out March 6. For now, Lorwyn Eclipsed remains the undisputed biggest mainline Magic set ever. Will Secrets of Strixhaven be able to top it in April, or Reality Fracture in October? We'll have to wait and see.
