The Punisher can now ride an otherworldly T. rex
Image: NetEase Games/Marvel GamesKnock Marvel Rivals all you want for copying Overwatch's homework and being unrepentantly horny, but you've gotta hand it to developer NetEase Games when it comes to putting dinosaurs from a parallel-universe Earth into the hero shooter. Season 8 of Marvel Rivals will see the addition of new Vanguard hero Devil Dinosaur to the roster, the developer announced Tuesday.
Marvel Rivals season 8: Sins of Alchemax launches on March 15, and will bring Devil Dinosaur into the fold. The new season will also bring with it an all-new Doom Match map, Alchemax Headquarters, new accessories, PC storage optimization, and more. But the real draw is the new hero, which the developer describes below.
"As a Vanguard, Devil Dinosaur brings raw, primal power to the roster, always ready to tear the opposition to shreds," says Marvel Rivals creative director Guanguang. "In combat, he relies on his massive physique and a forcefield shield to brawl on the frontline, using his primal bites to inflict a continuous bleeding effect on targets. When smashing through enemy defenses, he ramps up the aggression. Devil can shred exposed prey and temporarily clamp his massive jaws around bleeding enemies, taking them out of the fight with a controlling hold.
"Upon activating his Ultimate, Devil Dinosaur transforms into an unstoppable behemoth. He charges forward, mercilessly trampling all enemies in his path, completely shattering enemy backlines to lead your team to victory."
In the first trailer for Marvel Rivals season 8, X-Men leader Cyclops steals the show as he tries to protect Devil Dinosaur's partner Moon Girl. We only get a brief look at Devil being alerted to the threat against Moon Girl.
The full reveal of Devil Dinosaur for Marvel Rivals is smartly timed to the release of Marvel Television's Punisher: One Last Kill — because in the game, Devil Dinosaur and The Punisher will team up. Or to be more specific, Frank Castle can mount and ride his T. rex friend in one of the newly confirmed Team-Up moves coming to Marvel Rivals.
Using their Primal Punishment Team-Up move, Punisher hops on Devil's back for a ride. Punisher is limited to normal attacks (Adjudication and Deliverance) and his Scourge Grenade while on his T. rex buddy. To offset that, Punisher receives damage reduction and shares healing received with Devil Dinosaur while riding him.
For those tank-class players out there looking forward to seeing Devil Dinosaur shake up the Marvel Rivals roster, NetEase Games also released a gameplay video of the dino in action.
Devil Dinosaur was created by Jack “The King” Kirby in 1978 for a never-materialized animated series about a hominid boy (Moon Boy) and his dinosaur pal from an alternate version of Earth known as Dinosaur World. After a short-lived series, Devil Dinosaur (and Moon Boy) made guest appearances in various Marvel comics. In 2016, Marvel gave the character an ongoing series, Moon Girl And Devil Dinosaur, and an animated series of the same name in 2023, which ran for two seasons.
Marvel Rivals is available on Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Windows PC, and Xbox Series X.
