During the PlayStation State of Play broadcast on Tuesday, Insomniac Games revealed a boatload of fresh new details about Marvel's Wolverine, which launches exclusively on PlayStation 5 on Sept. 15. In the new footage of the game, we learned that Insomniac was NOT playing around about the blood in this game — and that Wolverine is a hairy, beefy daddy who's set to give Leon Kennedy a run for his money.

Creative director Marcus Smith said, "Wolverine is a race against time to rescue a group of kidnapped mutants," but Logan "quickly discovers he's not the only mutant attempting to save them."

We then see an extended in-engine sequence from the game, where Wolverine is making his way through a gaggle of grunts in a shipping yard. There's not a non-lethal combat clause here like with Batman or Spider-Man — Logan is absolutely shredding his opponents with his adamantium claws, and emerges from each brief encounter coated head-to-toe with blood. At numerous points in the footage, we see Wolverine's healing factor kicking in, as abrasions and wounds tidily draw close, with healthy flesh in their place. (His suit also appears to have regenerative powers too, with tears and rips repairing themselves.

The action then moves to the back of a semi-truck, and Logan jumps from vehicle to vehicle letting his opponents have it in violent fashion. At one point Logan is quite literally run over by a semi, but he shrugs it off, drops to the asphalt, and allows himself to be dragged behind the vehicle. Logan finally reaches the mutants he's tracking down. "Are you a superhero?" asks a green mutant kid. "No, kid. I'm Wolverine," he growls, as he's grazed by a bullet in skidding off his meaty bicep.

Pre-orders for Marvel's Wolverine will be available starting today, with information to come on PlayStation's official blog. The game will not be available on PC, and Insomniac did not reveal further details about a potential deluxe or collector's edition during the showcase.

Marvel's Wolverine marks a departure from Insomniac's previous superhero offerings, namely the three Spider-Man games for PS4 and PS5. Spidey's attacks are consistently non-lethal, to the point where even if you launch an enemy off a building, they'll end up miraculously webbed onto a wall. Marvel's Wolverine promises to be a far more violent affair. In a September 2025 State of Play presentation, Insomniac devs highlighted the game's cutting-edge "blood tech," including a moment where Wolvy shoves his claws through a man's jaw until they emerge out the top of his head. According to the game's official site, "The game will explore Logan's signature spin on heroism – which is much darker and more brutal than you might expect from Insomniac."

The upcoming game tells an original story that will take Logan to a variety of locations familiar to Marvel fans, including the Canadian wilderness, Japan, and Madripoor. Fans can also expect to see some familiar faces along the way, including the shapeshifter Mystique, Jean Grey, Sabertooth, and the Soviet super-soldier Omega Red.

Marvel's Wolverine will be released for PlayStation 5 on Sept. 15.
