Insomniac Games has made a surprise release date announcement for Marvel’s Wolverine, but what’s less surprising is when it’s launching, as the most famous member of the X-Men is dodging Grand Theft Auto 6.

Marvel’s Wolverine is an upcoming action-adventure title by Insomniac Games, the team behind the excellent Marvel’s Spider-Man series. In Marvel’s Wolverine, the mutant killing machine is going to be traveling the world and carving up iconic X-Men enemies with his Adamantium claws, including Omega Red and the dreaded Sentinels.

Fans were disappointed when Marvel’s Wolverine skipped the recent Sony State of Play, with many assuming it was either delayed or saved for the summer showcases. In a strange move, Insomniac Games has announced on Twitter/X that Marvel’s Wolverine is coming to PS5 on September 15, 2026.

Fans Will Have Plenty Of Time With Wolverine Before GTA 6

It’s exciting to learn that Marvel’s Wolverine is launching in 2026, especially as the year’s schedule is still bare. Barring any delays, it will be one of the biggest titles in the latter half of 2026.

The fact that it’s launching in September makes a ton of sense, as the game is actively avoiding Grand Theft Auto 6, which is set to launch in November. If Marvel’s Wolverine had launched any later, then fans might have waited, as they’d be saving their pennies for the bigger title.

It’s a shame that Marvel’s Wolverine needs to dodge a bigger title, as the footage revealed so far looks incredible. That’s just how big Grand Theft Auto 6 is, as an Insomniac Games title starring one of the most popular comic book heroes of all time isn’t enough to stand against it.

Hopefully, Marvel’s Wolverine hits its release date, as it would be mulched in a head-to-head competition with Grand Theft Auto 6. That being said, Insomniac Games shouldn’t shove it out the door before it's ready, just to beat Rockstar to the punch, as there’s no healing factor that can prevent a botched launch.
