Mesmalie PC (Goldberg-Final)

Get in the middle of nowhere. Here, you’ll learn to tame your ability… though not without some bumps along the way. You wake up to a fire in the middle of the night. This was probably caused by your Magick, which you have very little control over… To tame this ability, you decide to take matters into your own hands and end up at a small witches’ coven- a decrepit house in the middle of nowhere. Mesmer, one of these witches, greets you at the door, and thus your Magickal training commences… ,,, though, not without a few bumps along the road.

The unique art style draws players in, and the genuinely stellar OST helps immerse them throughout an evolving journey that starts as intriguing and playful before building into a heartfelt emotional crescendo. Frequent minigames and gameplay of Mesmalie  shifts keep things fresh and help vary the pace. While they’re simple overall, they’re a welcome addition. On top of that, there are plenty of different “fail” endings to discover—some hilarious, others surprisingly interesting—which adds even more replay value. Incredible work from the developer. This is a wonderful experience that’s easy to recommend. Starting off, the visual style of Mesmalie is fantastic.

It’s easy to be won over by great pixel art, and the style here is especially striking. The backgrounds and overall color palette look incredible, beautifully capturing Mesmalie’s occult atmosphere. The soundtrack complements the visuals perfectly as well, with plenty of memorable tracks. After the demo introduced an intriguing slice of the story, the full Mesmalie had a lot to live up to. Thankfully, it exceeds those expectations. The writing is excellent, and the story remains engaging from start to finish. Much like the demo, there are plenty of variations in the scenarios presented, along with numerous game-over endings to discover. There’s plenty to explore even after finishing the main story.
