Metroid Prime 4: How to Get the Legacy Suit

Players can acquire many upgrades in Metroid Prime 4: Beyond. While some are mandatory to find in order to progress, there are some that are completely optional and easy to miss.

One of the optional upgrades is the Legacy Suit, which completely changes the overall look of Samus and also grants her one of the best abilities in the game. It’s a suit that you definitely will want to get your hands on.

How to Get the Legacy Suit in Metroid Prime 4: Beyond

In order to get the Legacy Suit in Metroid Prime 4: Beyond, players need to completely fill up the Altar of Legacy with green crystals. The Altar of Legacy is found in the Fury Green biome, just north of your home base where Myles McKenzie is located. The image attached below shows the location of the Altar of Legacy.

The Altar of Legacy becomes available very early in a playthrough of Metroid Prime 4: Beyond, right before the second main boss of the game. In other words, it’s on the main path and impossible to miss, so if you haven’t unlocked it yet, just keep progressing, and the game will introduce it shortly.

The Altar of Legacy provides many rewards throughout the game, including the Psychic Beam Upgrade, Control Beam Boost, Crystal Finder, and the Legacy Suit. These upgrades unlock the more you fill up the Altar of Legacy with green Crystals, with an upgrade unlocking at each quarter of the total meter.

Legacy Suit Abilities

The Legacy Suit is the best suit in the game as it comes with a special ability that can’t be beaten. This powerful suit provides a psychic barrier to Samus by pressing R, which costs 35 missile ammo. This barrier reduces the incoming damage of all attacks, while also damaging enemies.

Keep in mind that the Legacy Suit’s psychic barrier doesn’t last forever. Taking too many hits from enemies will result in the barrier depleting, so try your hardest to avoid enemy attacks to make it last as long as possible.

Out of all the upgrades in Metroid Prime 4: Beyond, this is probably the most useful against waves of enemies and challenging boss fights. Being able to take less damage, while also dealing damage, can make a huge difference, especially in hard mode.

How to Find Green Crystals for the Altar of Legacy

Considering unlocking the Legacy Suit involves finding enough green crystals to 100% fill the meter of the Altar with Legacy, it’s important to know where to find them.

There are a couple of reliable locations to find green crystals: crystal deposits in the desert and inside shrines. I have found the most green crystals inside shrines, which are hidden locations throughout the desert area.

If you plan on completing the Altar of Legacy, I recommend finding all the shrines in the desert. These locations are represented by purple icons on your map, which only appear when you get close to them.

There are a total of six shrines to be found throughout the desert of Sol Valley. Luckily, the map isn’t that large, so they shouldn’t be too difficult to find. Just get on your bike and start thoroughly exploring the desert to find them all.
