Mina the Hollower: How to Complete The Duke's Quest

Mina the Hollower features a good number of side quests to keep the player busy. While some quests are pretty straightforward, with the character telling you exactly what to do, others are more confusing and time-consuming.

One of the earlier quests you'll encounter is given by an NPC named The Duke, who asks you to help him find his "farest love". However, he has no clue as to where she is located, leaving it up to you to figure it out on your own.

If you are having trouble finding The Duke's love, this guide is exactly what you're looking for. Here's how to complete The Duke's quest in Mina the Hollower and the rewards you earn for doing so.

How to Start The Duke's Quest

The Duke's quest can be started by speaking to The Duke on the eastern side of the Eastern Heath region. He's almost impossible to miss, considering he's on the main path and is one of the only NPCs found within the area.

Once you reach the area shown in the image attached above, speak to The Duke, and he will explain his situation with you. To actually start the quest, you have to agree to help him through the dialogue option that becomes available when talking to him.

How to Complete The Duke's Quest

Now that you have accepted The Duke's quest, he will begin to follow you. It's your job to guide him to the correct location, but it sounds much easier than it actually is.

The reason this is challenging is because there will be enemies in your path and every time The Duke takes damage, he will run away. If this happens, make sure to approach him again and ask him to follow you.

The key here is to take it slow and try to defeat the enemies before they have a chance to deal damage to The Duke. In other words, you want to clear a path for him.

Since there is no map in Mina the Hollower, I will be showing you the exact route to The Duke's love through a series of pictures below.

First, you want to head south.

Next, you want to continue south to the next screen until you reach the room that has the enemies with only legs.

Once you reach the room with the leg enemies, head east and take the stairs north.

Next, continue north, taking your time to avoid the spikes. Remember, if The Duke gets injured here, you will need to approach him again and tell him to follow you.

After following the path north, you will now be near a save point. Feel free to use it here to replenish your Plasma Vials. Once you're done with that, head east.

Next, follow the path north, going across the red carpet on the ground.

This red carpet will lead you to the room that leads directly to the boss's room. If you haven't fought the boss yet, you'll need to activate it by attaching the statue's missing head (which can be found by destroying the western wall).

After defeating the boss, and proceeding to the following room, The Duke will create an opening in the western wall for you. Follow him through this opening, leading you to a room that contains a coffin.

Now all you have to do is interact with the coffin a couple of times and tell The Duke to get inside the coffin to complete his quest. Once The Duke gets in, and meets his love in the afterlife, you will be rewarded for completing the quest.

The Duke Quest Rewards

After you complete The Duke's quest in Mina the Hollower, you will be rewarded for your efforts. Completing this quest earns you the Proto Spark Trinket, a powerful upgrade that you can equip.

The Proto Spark Trinket provides you with the following effect: Save yourself from death, once. Resets after dying. This is honestly one of, if not the best, Trinkets in the entire game. I can't tell you the number of times it has been the sole reason I ended up defeating a challenging boss, so I recommend equipping it right away.
