Ah, the feeling of hundred percenting a video game, whether it be toppling mountains to grab that 7/10-difficulty rating Platinum Trophy or getting a full GamerScore, we've all done it across our preferred platforms. And if you've wanted a cozier or easier time nabbing a sweet 100% percent, I'm sure a game like Mixtape would be perfect here, right?
Well, I would've believed that if it weren't for a couple of tad annoying Trophies/Achievements thrown in here. Now, don't go twisting my words, thinking this is a jab at the game. I loved the time I had with it, and I know many would agree. But seriously, some of the collective accolades that you have to earn for the game's full completion are just slightly infuriating.
Split Fiction: Trophy And Achievement Guide
A fun list than can be completed in one run.
And if you want to know exactly which ones I mean, I implore you to join me on this list, where I'll briefly discuss the hardest Trophies/Achievements in Mixtape and guide you on how to earn them with ease.
Yeah, I'd Order That Too, Slater
In Chapter 8: Ultimate Slushie, there's a missable Trophy/Achievement here that is actually impossible to get unless you know a certain thing from way later in the game. Essentially, this is one of those where you're obligated to earn it in a following playthrough or chapter replay.
The Grunge Metal Alchemist Trophy/Achievement in Mixtape requires you to make Slater's secret slushie recipe. The recipe itself is found later on a poster in Slater's room. But if you want to knock this one out in your starting playthrough, by all means.
You can do this with either Stacey's or Slater's slushies in this section. All you have to do is pour in a quarter each of the following flavors: Blue Crush, Bubblegum, Lime, and Orange. Once you've filled the cup with these flavors, the Trophy/Achievement pop-up should appear when the characters show off their creations.
7 Well, Take a Look At You
American Ninja Stacey
In Chapter 27: The Run, Stacey rushes to quickly save Cassandra from getting busted by her dad, and it is up to us to guide her through this freerunning sequence of sorts. And it's also here where you can earn the "Well, Take a Look At You" Trophy/Achievement for completing this section without missing a single jump or slide.
The only thing you need to worry about here is choosing when to jump or slide since Stacey will be auto-running. Jumping is obvious; just remember that you can hold down the trigger to slide a bit longer. The obstacle course itself is pretty simple, but of course, I can give you a few helpful things to keep in mind.
The cars that Stacey briefly collides with on the road won't count; they're scripted, don't worry.
Again, when to use either prompt is vital here. If you see something with a space beneath it, try to slide under it, specifically things like the road barricades, the broken fence, or that construction digger.
Meanwhile, try to stick your jumps correctly when Stacey comes across the treehouse or even when she's trying to jump the fence. You can tell you've botched your input when Stacey awkwardly stumbles or loses her momentum. Once you successfully turn the corner to the gas station and trigger the cutscene, that's when the Trophy/Achievement should pop up.
6 Cone Island, Baby
Just a Light Touch, Like You're Kissing the Ground
Once you've finished all the memories at Stacey's House, you'll then proceed to a skateboard ride with Slater and Cassandra. In this section, you need to knock over 10 traffic cones during the entire sequence.
There are three cones in the middle next to the parked yellow dump truck. Another one in the middle again, right next to a school bus on the other side. The fifth and sixth cones are just before you skate into the construction area. The seventh one is in the construction zone, placed right before you jump off the ledge with Stacey.
Now bear with me: traffic cones #8 and #9 will appear once the camera angle switches to a top-down view, once you come down a winding road. You can easily miss these because of where they're placed, so my suggestion is to slow Stacey down by tilting the analog stick back as you turn. Finally, the last cone is right before you reach the bridge in the parking lot. If you miss any cones, you can just restart this entire chapter.
5 Woods Cabin Mini-Games
Time-Sensitive Chores
I decided to compile these together since they take place in the same chapter of Stacey and Slater reminiscing at the abandoned Cabin, but we're essentially looking at the following Trophies/Achievements:
- Paint it, Black, If You Want: Paint the entire door in under 30 seconds.
- Sofa King Fast: Get the couch in place within 30 seconds.
- Leaves That Are Green: Clear the leaves in under 45 seconds.
- From The Hip: Hit all the cans in under 30 seconds.
The mini-games present here all have one thing in common: their trophy/achievements require you to complete them in either 30 or 45 seconds. While I would suggest that practice makes perfect and that you'll eventually get them after a trial-and-error, I've gone ahead and compiled an easy breakdown to get each one done feasibly:
- For the door painting mini-game, just use the roller and don't switch the paint. The trick is to immediately stroke the roller from top to bottom and adequately position it side to side. With enough speed, you should be able to paint most of the door. Don't worry about any small nooks that you miss; there's a bit of wiggle room here from the game.
-
To transport the couch in 30 seconds, you've got a couple of routes to take, but the one I found easiest is to hitch it right and to the top (from where Stacey is), and set it down with Slater facing the screen. As soon as the square turns green, immediately drop it to complete the mini-game. Try not to bump into anything, or else you're wasting precious seconds.
-
To quickly clear the leaf pile, what helped me was to immediately do a fully charged sweep from the middle of the pile and then go around doing quick sweeps on the other edges. Make sure no single speck of leaf is left within the circle's edges.
- Finally, From The Hip requires you to get ALL the bottles and cans shot down in 30 seconds. Position the can and bottles right above Stacey's clutched fingers for easy pickings, and go from the middle to the right, then to the left, as I did.
4 Smooth Shopper
Through Hell and Back for Cassandra
This one takes place in the fifth chapter, called "Shopping Cart Bomb", where Stacey and Slater try to transport a heavily drunk Cassandra in one piece. And it's pretty self-explanatory, but it's also understandable if you manage to fumble this on your first or second go around. To get the Smooth Shopper Trophy/Achievement, you must complete the whole sequence without crashing the cart.
Remember that you can keep the spinning cart centered by pressing L1 and R1 together.
Again, nothing too challenging, but when the camera shifts towards an overhead one like a TV news chase in the latter half, that's when things can seem a bit tricky, but just try to keep an even footing and steer whenever you see an incoming car or two.
Eventually, when the camera shifts back, you'll soon reach a downhill slope with a pier at the end. If you didn't crash the Shopping Cart, triggering the cutscene here will reward you with the Smooth Shopper Trophy/Achievement.
South Of Midnight: Trophy & Achievement Guide
If you are looking to earn all trophies across Prospero in South of Midnight, this guide is for you.
3 Front to Back
Only Because You Can't Skip Cutscenes and Conversations
The Front to Back Trophy/Achievement is awarded to you for successfully finding everything in the bedrooms and for all unique conversations. This specifically means interacting with every single point of interest across all three of the characters' bedrooms, as well as at the abandoned cabin. You will also need to exhaust every piece of dialogue with Slater and Cassandra in each instance with them.
Thankfully, the game keeps track of your interactions and conversations. The icon for interacting will also have a dotted-line circle to indicate that you've interacted/exhausted the dialogue with a character or point of interest.
However, keep in mind that when you restart a chapter, you will retain the progress for this trophy, but the dotted circle will revert, so you'll need to interact with everything again if you didn't keep track previously. A handy 100% walkthrough is vital here, so don't feel like this trophy is bugged, since you can miss even one small thing from your playthrough here to miss this Trophy/Achievement.
Some helpful pointers that I can possibly give here are to check both up and down in rooms. For instance, in Cassandra's room, you can interact with her curtains/drapes, which are easily missable. And when you're at the cabin in the woods, Slater has up to four different conversation states that you can cycle through, so be wary if you're trying to do this one yourself without any handholding guides.
2 And It's Outta There!
Get Those Quick Reflexes Going
During Chapter 14: Softball, you'll clumsily start off the baseball mini-game as Stacey, but soon after, Cassandra takes her place to show how things are really done. To obtain the "And It's Outta There!" Trophy/Achievement in Mixtape, you're required to hit only home runs as Cassandra. Meaning, if you miss a single ball as her, it's back to a restart of the chapter.
This is probably one of the most annoying ones for anyone who don't have strong reflexes. The first ball shot at Cassandra will always be in the center, but after that, it's all random, directed towards each diagonal side.
For a successful home run, you need to press the swing button when the outer circle perfectly overlaps the target one. Try to swing just a tiny bit early, and you should be able to still get the homerun off, because the swing animation from Cassandra also has a quick-second delay before it plays out.
It can take you a couple of tries, but be persistent because it is definitely doable, unlike the next Trophy/Achievement. Oh, and not to flex, but a Yakuza fan like me who's played the Batting Cage mini-game a lot had this one in the bag quickly.
1 Banned in Massachusetts
You Might Break Your Fingers
In Chapter 28: Coastal Cruise, the trio will be on this dream-like car ride with Camille Cole's posse, heading towards their new rendezvous location for the party. During this whole sequence, much like that skateboard one where you can blow up things by pressing the L2 and R2 buttons, the Banned in Massachusetts Trophy/Achievement will require you not to miss any fireworks with Stacey.
You can also use the Square/X buttons on your controller.
Now, let me be very clear, I chose this one as the hardest trophy/achievement solely because of how irritating it can be. And no, it's definitely not bugged, you just have to be INSANELY fast here.
I strongly recommend binding the default triggers to your bumper buttons, then spamming them alongside the face button throughout the entire sequence. I know it sounds really dumb to do this, but it genuinely feels like a gamble if you'll miss any fireworks, especially in the final instance, where the cars are in the sky.
When you do get to the moment where the cars are in the clouds, keep spamming the buttons as fast as you can, even when the game's slowly transitioning to the next cutscene.
With enough elbow grease and luck, you should be able to get this done. If not, try to muster as much patience as possible to hear Stacey tell you that two of the greatest "Brian/Bryans" are in the same band in the opening cutscenes of this chapter, because you'll probably be repeating it a couple of times, as I did.
