Monster Hunter Wilds is finally getting its big expansion in 2027, as Capcom announced the Ascendance DLC at Summer Games Fest 2026, which adds a massive amount of content to the game.

The Monster Hunter series has been adding significant content in post-launch DLCs since Monster Hunter World, which usually includes a new region to explore, more monsters, and the brutally difficult G-Rank hunts, which require players to be at their best to survive them.

Monster Hunter Wilds is an evolution for the series and the best Monster Hunter game to date.

Fans have been expecting Monster Hunter Wilds to receive a DLC update at some point, similar to Iceborne for Monster Hunter World or Sunbreak for Monster Hunter Rise. The new expansion, announced at Summer Game Fest 2026, is called Ascendance, and as the name suggests, it will involve hunters needing to rise into the sky, as players explore sky islands, much like the ones in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom.

Monster Hunter Wilds Ascendance Is Exploring The Skies In 2027

The Monster Hunter Wilds: Ascendance trailer shows the hunter using their Seikret to reach floating islands. It's here they encounter new monsters, and use fresh weapon skills to fight them, including exploding items. It seems that exploring a new floating civilization is the main thrust of the story, with monsters that have remained secluded due to hiding among the clouds.

The trailer also shows a powerful Elder Dragon that uses the power of the wind to tear other monsters apart, dropping them from the sky. As is the case with the other Monster Hunter DLCs, this is likely the big boss of the expansion, similar to Malenzo the vampire dragon in Sunbreak.

The new expansion is called Ascendance, and as the name suggests, it will involve hunters needing to rise into the sky, as players explore sky islands, much like the ones in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom.

Capcom announced that Monster Hunter Wilds: Ascendance is launching in 2027. Unfortunately, there wasn't a smaller release window, and it may not launch until the end of next year. At least it's not another game launching in the packed August-October period, where everyone is throwing their games in a bid to avoid GTA 6.

It's no secret that fans and critics were underwhelmed with Monster Hunter Wilds, due to its outright removal of interesting mechanics from Monster Hunter Rise, a short story mode, way too many long escort missions, and just being far too easy for its good. Ascendance has the chance to turn the tide, and hopefully give fans another reason to try it out.
