Season 2 of Netflix’s live-action adaptation of Nickelodeon’s Avatar: The Last Airbender premieres next year, and it’s staying true to the original’s structure by focusing on the element of Earth. That means introducing Aang’s earthbending master, Toph Beifong (Miya Cech), who is seen showing off her skills in an underground bending competition.

Toph is blind and navigates the world around her by sensing the earth’s vibrations — a skill she learned from the earthbending badgermoles (a creature that's currently making waves in the world of Magic: The Gathering). She explains her deep connection to the element in the voiceover narration for the teaser, which also shows a blindfolded Aang (Gordon Cormier) getting a lesson. As an airbender prone to flying around, getting in tune with the ground beneath his feet isn’t going to come easily to Aang.

With Admiral Zhao (Ken Leung) killed at the end of season 1, Princess Azula (Elizabeth Yu) is now the primary threat to Aang and his allies. She’s also not on good terms with her exiled brother Prince Zuko (Dallas Liu) and wise uncle Iroh (Paul Sun-Hyung Lee). The teaser shows Azula and her friends Mai (Thalia Tran) and Ty Lee (Momona Tamada) pursuing Sokka (Ian Ousley) and Suki (Maria Zhang), and Iroh training Zuko on how to redirect Azula’s lightning.

Appa and Momo are seen soaring with Teo (Lucian-River Chauhan), who presumably escaped Azula’s invasion of Omashu at the end of season 1. Omashu is Aang’s first stop in season 2 as he seeks training from King Bumi (Utkarsh Ambudkar), only to learn that his friend has been captured by the Fire Nation. Netflix also provides a first look at the sea monster that guards the Serpent’s Pass, a dangerous route to the Earth Nation capital of Ba Sing Se that Team Avatar helps a group of refugees cross.

Seasons 2 and 3 of Netflix’s Avatar: The Last Airbender were filmed back-to-back, and production on season 3 has already wrapped.
