Covering the video games industry since 2017, with experience in news, articles, lists, and reviews (and I blame The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask for that).
If you are a fan of RPGs and want a third-person version: Tayná Garcia is a Brazilian journalist (but you can call her Tay) who ended up working with video games after finishing Zelda: Majora's Mask when she was a kid. With more than eight years of experience in the segment, she has been an assistant editor at Jovem Nerd in the past and is currently a contributor at DualShockers and a writer for gaming magazines for Editora Europa. Oh, and she may like Hideo Kojima a bit too much.
Having high expectations for an event like State of Play is extremely common among gamers, as is the disappointment of not seeing the announcement you were hoping for.
But Castlevania fans definitely aren't feeling that way today! Out of nowhere, Konami decided to revive the vampire saga we all love and announced a brand-new game in the franchise. Oh, and based on the first trailer and details, this looks like an absolute dream game for all of us.
The Next Chapter of the Belmont Clan
Taking advantage of the spotlight on this Thursday’s State of Play, Feb 12, Konami announced Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse, a brand-new entry that presents the next chapter for the legendary Belmont Clan.
Its story takes place two decades after the events of Castlevania III: Dracula's Curse (yes, the prequel to the original Castlevania) and the recent Netflix animated series, set in the streets of a haunted 15th-century Paris. Fancy, right?

The protagonist is called Vampire Killer, and he’s the successor to Trevor Belmont. Armed with the iconic whip, he is destined to fight against the creatures of darkness to save the city.
It seems that beyond the beautiful Parisian streets, we will also explore some mystical castles. And, in terms of gameplay, the whip will serve as both a weapon and a traversal tool to progress through the environments, all within a 2D structure that brings back the vibes of the franchise's roots.
Konami announced Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse, a brand-new entry that presents the next chapter for the legendary Belmont Clan.
Also, its aesthetic is equally striking, staying true to the series' gothic art style, and making me want to replay Dracula’s Curse immediately.
However, what has me extremely excited is that the project is being developed in partnership with Evil Empire and Motion Twin, the incredible French studios behind Dead Cells! Also, beyond finally giving the saga a new game, the game is also part of the celebrations for the franchise's 40th anniversary.
And Belmont’s Curse’s first trailer is already spine-tingling, offering a glimpse of what to expect from this next entry, which has probably already become one of the most anticipated titles of 2026. You can check it out for yourself right below!
Last but not least, it also seems we won’t have to wait very long to play this baby, as the launch is set for sometime in 2026. So yeah, better start saving some money, since this year is packed with amazing new games.
