Monster Hunter Wilds was one of our favorite games of 2025. In our review, we said that it's a better game than both World and Rise, and something that should be experienced by everyone.
This was a sentiment shared by many around launch, but over time, the narrative surrounding Monster Hunter Wilds shifted away from how enjoyable the game was and how poor its PC performance had become.
Capcom had promised that help was on the way, and nearly 12 months after release, they're finally delivering. As part of the newest patch for the PC version of Monster Hunter Wilds (version 1.040.03.01), Capcom is promising "optimization improvements for Steam-specific processes and options to reduce processing load."
According to the patch notes, the development team discovered one possible cause for performance issues: an unintentional increase in CPU load around the Support Desk at Base Camp or the Grand HHub, due to a claimed content status check performed in-game. This resulted in a drop in FPS, but it is an unintended bug that will be fixed with this update. Additional improvements will be implemented in the upcoming Version 1.041 update for Monster Hunter Wilds on February 18th.
Today's PC Patch For Monster Hunter Wilds Addresses Several Performance Issues
Capcom is also releasing several CPU/GPU updates to further improve PC performance. This includes the following:
- Reducing shader warming processes performed outside the shader compilation screen
- Adjusting texture streaming
- Adjusting the High Resolution Texture Pack
There is also a new CPU tab in the Options menu that lets players adjust CPU-related settings, along with new graphics settings, graphics presets, and more.

Monster Hunter Wilds Update Hints At Possible Switch 2 Release Date
The developers of Monster Hunter Wilds have revealed the release date for the next title update, which may hint at a Nintendo Switch 2 launch.
The early returns from fans are promising on the Steam forums, though some are still saying that they still can't get their frame rate to stick to 60 FPS even post-update. Despite that concern, the prevailing view seems to be that, while things are still not perfect, they're at least far more stable.
As always, please update your drivers to the latest version for optimal performance.
