Stability is nice to have in life. And Nintendo clearly believes it's good for the company's hybrid consoles. That's why updates improving stability for Switch 2 and the original Switch are now available, bringing both hardware versions up to 21.1.0.

Nintendo started rolling out the new system updates for Switch and Switch 2 yesterday, December 8. Both patch notes are the same: "General system stability improvements to enhance the user's experience." This is also the same language from a Switch 2 update in September, and stability patches have been joked about regarding Nintendo for years at this point.

However, last month brought a beefier update to Switch 2 and Switch. Nintendo added better visual clarity on the home menu regarding digital and physical games as well as GameChat improvements, for example. The patch did bring about more stability improvements, too.

Since releasing in June, Switch 2 has already sold 10 million units, smashing records in the process. Nintendo has upped its internal forecast for the hybrid console, predicting Switch 2 will sell 19 million units through the end of March (previous estimate was 15 million).

Earlier this month, both systems saw the arrival of a long-awaited exclusive with Metroid Prime 4: Beyond. While the game obviously looks better on Switch 2, the latest Samus Aran adventure still runs pretty well on the original Switch.

Below are the patch notes for version 21.1.0:

Switch 2

  • General system stability improvements to enhance the user's experience.

Switch
