Nintendo has announced that it's changing the name of one of its digital services to something far less original, taking a further step away from the era when the company had memorable titles for its products.

One complaint about the Nintendo Switch 2 is that it's not as interesting as the company's other systems, lacking any experimental gimmicks. My Nintendo was the name of the company's online store, where players could order items and redeem the Platinum Points they earned through various means. It makes sense that the company would change its name to one that better reflects the service's primary purpose.

However, the My Nintendo name was memorable and distinct, especially given the competition's use of the PlayStation Store and Microsoft Store as their digital storefronts. It's another step towards the blandification of Nintendo products.

My Nintendo was the name of the company's online store, where players could order items and redeem the Platinum Points they earned through various means.

Also, Nintendo has official brick-and-mortar stores around the world, which will now be confused with the Nintendo Store name, something that didn't happen when the "My" was in the title.

A big part of Nintendo's identity was its ability to stand out from the crowd. While the competition focused on pushing the power of the tech, Nintendo has just done its own weird thing, to the delight of millions, and it feels like the era of strangeness and risks is fading away, even through something as simple as a name change.
