The ongoing debate about how to get your friends to finally start watching One Piece anime has been a thing of the anime community for years, because let’s be completely honest: trying to convince someone to commit to a story that currently spans more than 1,000 episodes is a tough sell, no matter how incredible Eiichiro Oda’s world-building actually is.

6 Hardest Anime To Watch

Here are 6 anime that are unforgettable, but not easy to sit through.

It simply intimidates newcomers (and I don’t blame them). However, the solution is finally on the way, as Netflix and WIT Studio are officially stepping in to solve this modern dilemma! That’s because the highly anticipated anime remake has just received its very first official trailer, and it is giving us a wonderful reason to be excited – a significantly shorter, filler-free journey.

A Battle of Hype Between Pirates and Outlaws

Just to test which side of the force (gamer or otaku) is ultimately stronger, Netflix decided to drop the first trailer for The One Piece on the exact same day Rockstar Games finally revealed the price details for Grand Theft Auto 6. As it turns out, both sides are equally powerful, since both topics are completely dominating pop culture conversations around the world right now!

This first trailer for The One Piece brings some beautiful, fresh footage highlighting the iconic Romance Dawn arc, while officially reinforcing that the premiere is locked in for a February 2027 release window. This quick glimpse already shows how this ambitious project aims to completely restart Monkey D. Luffy’s grand adventure from scratch, giving the legendary East Blue saga a modern, visually stunning overhaul.

For some fans, the idea of remaking an anime that is still actively airing might seem a bit unusual, but the creative team behind it knows exactly what they are doing. According to official details, the first season of The One Piece will consist of just seven episodes. However, to ensure the narrative actually has room to breathe, each episode will clock in between 40 and 50 minutes, adapting everything up to Sanji joining the Straw Hat crew at the Baratie – covering roughly 50 chapters of the original manga.

“The spirit of discovery continues with The One Piece, the next animated series from WIT Studio,” the production's official description reads. “The series utilizes cutting-edge visual technology to present the beginning of Luffy's journey to a new generation.”

This condensed structure means WIT Studio, a quite respected team famously known for delivering the early seasons of Attack on Titan and Vinland Saga, can deliver a pacing style that is still incredibly faithful to Oda's original manga panels. The original Toei Animation series, which started all the way back in 1999, is amazing (don’t get me wrong), but it is also historically known for stretching out scenes and leaving storylines feeling a bit dragged out.

By moving away from that old-school broadcast format and adopting a sleek seasonal structure, The One Piece is ready to fix that paradigm. We will only have to wait just a little longer for a specific day, as The One Piece is scheduled to land on Netflix sometime in February 2027. I’m definitely excited to see how WIT Studio handles this legendary lore, especially since it means we can finally introduce our friends to the Straw Hats without scaring them away!
