Nine Dot Studios has announced the early access release date for Outward 2 in a new trailer that shows the game running on "Potato" settings, the lowest the game can go.

The original Outward had a cartoonish aesthetic, more akin to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild than to the Dark Souls series.

That standard fantasy world look was just a sweet, sugary coating for what was one of the most brutal action RPGs to date, one where the player is always in a survival mode, where they need to account for food, water, encumbrance, light sources, stamina, and injuries, all with enemies that are unrelenting in battle.

Usually, when PC video games are shown in trailers, they're on computers with incredibly high specs. Unfortunately, due to the ongoing memory-cost crisis, many people are scaling back their hardware spending, which means there's less incentive to splurge on a high-end PC.

The Outward 2 trailer is going in the opposite direction, as it's hosted by Mr. Potato, who shows the game running on the Potato settings, which are the lowest available to players. The players only need a GeForce GTX 750 TI and 8GB RAM to run at these settings.

The Outward 2 trailer is going in the opposite direction, as it's hosted by Mr. Potato, who shows the game running on the Potato settings, which are the lowest available to players.

Outward 2 isn't exactly a graphical showcase on the Potato settings, but it runs smoothly, which is far more important than ray-tracing when a pack of goblins is trying to give the player a homemade vasectomy with their spears.

On high settings, Outward 2 looks gorgeous, and considering how low-tech it is compared to some modern games, it shouldn't be too hard for most PCs to have a pretty-looking version of its world on the screen, even when everything else is painful with the gameplay.
