Overwatch’s Hilarious April Fools’ Event Is Throwing Balance Out The Window Once More

2 hours ago 2

Every year Overwatch holds an April Fools’ Day event that adds a crazy new mode of chaotic balance changes and altered voice lines, and sticks googly eyes on the face of every hero. Blizzard still found time to add one this year even as it’s overhauling and rebooting the hero shooter with new updates, heroes, and lore drops.

The “Underwatch” event is going up today, and some of the balance changes we can see in the announcement trailer include making Mei taller and probably buffing her like a tank, dialing up D.va’s projectiles into large, slow-moving homing missiles, breaking up Domina’s shield so it has a bunch of holes as if her tech is malfunctioning, and turning Cassidy’s finger-guns greeting into an actual gun. It also looks like Vendetta is getting a third-person lock-on view like you would see in a character action game. That’s fun.

The limited-time mode will be available from April 1 to 13. We’ll add the full patch notes to this story when they’re live, likely sometime after the event itself launches at 2 p.m. Eastern. Just expect your Play of the Game highlights to include the googly eyes on your hero for a little bit regardless of whether you’re playing the mode.

Outside of the April Fools’ event Blizzard is teasing the game’s next hero, who will be joining the roster in two weeks when the next season starts. All we’ve seen so far is an illustration, but fans have connected the dots and think she may be a character from one of the game’s novels.
