Palworld: Best Flying Mounts

Sometimes it’s hard to appreciate the true scale of things when you're stuck on the ground. This is especially the case for your adventures in Palworld.

Luckily for us, we can soar into the sky on our Pals and see the world from above. This skill isn’t just useful for taking nice pictures, mind you, but you can use flying mounts to travel faster and skip certain sections of the map, progressing the story more quickly.

Let’s take a look at some of the most useful mounts for each stage of the game, and how to get our hands on them.

Pal Gear Workbench

Before you start thinking of zipping around the sky, you’re first going to need to build yourself a Pal Gear Workbench. You’re going to need a character level of 6 with the following items:

10x Paldium Fragments
30x Wood
2x Cloth

Once you’ve built the bench, you can create Harnesses & Saddles for a variety of Pals. Each can be found in the technology tree and must be unlocked before you can craft it via the workbench.

Most recipes require Leather, Paldium Fragments, as well as an ingot related to the level and tier of the Pal you’re trying to ride. Early-game saddles, for example, will require regular Ingots, while higher levels can require Paloxite, alongside other difficult-to-acquire items.

Early-Game Flying Mounts

It can be pretty valuable to begin flying as soon as possible. Much of the beginning terrain can be rather vertical; flying will save you a ton of time going back and forth.

In addition, if you’re looking to unlock as many of the fast travel points as possible, as well as towers that grant you vision over the map, many of these are located pretty high up. I wish I’d crafted myself a flying saddle early on, instead of climbing everywhere!

The first mount you’re likely to discover is Nitewing, with its saddle being unlocked at level 15. You can find this very early in the red-grass area of the starting zone, Windswept Hills.
Just north of this location, you can find yourself some wild Elphidran, whose saddle can be unlocked soon after at level 20.
Finally, if you wait until nighttime, you can find Helzephyr, also located in the Mount Flopie area. You can unlock this saddle for this Pal at level 25. This mount is pretty great and will last you a good amount of time, until you start transitioning to the mid-game areas.

If you want a dedicated flying mount, it’s worth looking into some of the passive skills that benefit movement. Adding something like Dimensional Leap, Eternal Engine, Swift, or Runner to your flying pals is drastically going to improve their performance.

Mid-Game Flying Mounts

Moving forward, you’ve probably completed a good number of towers and are working your way into the later areas of the game. Luckily, we have a huge number of flying mounts to choose from here, all being faster and more impressive than the previous ones.

At this point, you may be looking for a flying mount that you can use to get around and use in combat, so I’ll highlight some powerful options here:

You can start finding Quivern as soon as you get to No Man’s Trail, the grassy area at the foot of the huge Icy Mountain in the north. To equip the saddle, you’ll need level 38. Quivern has a pretty great ability, empowering the rest of your dragons, so you can let it rest in your party, giving passive damage buffs.
If you’re looking for some damage, head over to the 2nd Wildlife Sanctuary, north of Mount Obsidian. Here, you can find Astegon, which is a bit of a powerhouse early on, and only requires level 39 to ride. This Pal is great for mining too!
Now, if you wait for nighttime, you can fly on over to the 3rd Wildlife Sanctuary, northeast of the desert. Here you can catch a Shadowbeak, requiring level 47 to ride. This Pal has a way higher running speed and flying speed compared to everything we’ve covered so far, while also packing a punch. This mount should last you until at least Sunreach!

Late-Game Flying Mounts

As soon as you hit the late-game, which I consider to be everything from Sunreach and onwards, you get access to some of the most powerful Pals, and of course, Spheres in the entire game.

Scavenging for Sol and Ancient Spheres allows you to catch pretty much every single Pal you want, but, naturally, you’ll still need the level to unlock their saddle from the technology tree. Here are a few amazing mounts you can grab as soon as you enter Sunreach:

If you’ve managed to piece together a Xenolord slab via random chests or expeditions, you can build yourself a Summoning circle and fight it in a private arena. This raid boss has a ton of HP, but with enough decently levelled Pals, you should be fine. You can ride this Pal at level 66, and you’ll notice just how much faster it goes, compared to Shadowbeak.
If you don’t feel up for the challenge of the previous Pal, simply head to the westernmost floating island of Sunreach to find an Alpha Eidrolon. With Sol Spheres, this is pretty easy to catch and is actually a bit faster than Xenolord, at the cost of some stamina. This can be done as early as level 68.
Finally, we have Jetragon, which, like Eidrolon, can be found on Sunreach. Just head to the northwest island with the underground lake, and a level 70 Jetragon will be waiting for you. This is an extremely powerful Pal, with the fastest flying speed in the game. Unfortunately, you need level 79 to craft the saddle, and the materials are only found in the World Tree, so this can only be used right at the very end of your experience.

It might be worth mentioning that you can also find Shaolong in the World Tree, which is a pretty fantastic flying mount. But at this point, it may be overshadowed by the mounts you already have. It definitely looks cool though, so that’s a plus!
