There are a whole host of ores and crafting materials to be found scattered around the huge sprawling landscape of Palworld.

Most of these ores come in the form of large, glistening deposits, which are extremely easy to spot. Simply walk up to them and slam them a bit with your packaxe! Easy-peasy!

However, there is one type of ore, Chromite, which works a bit differently from the others, and you’ll need a good amount of it to craft some of the late-game Ingots!

Let’s take a look at Chromite and how to get as much of it as possible!

Getting Yourself a Smokie

  • Palworld Tunnel

  • Palworld Smokie Catch

So, Chromite works a little differently: the main deposits of the ore are actually found underground. So how on earth do we uncover them?

Well, there are 2 main ways. You can craft a Metal Detector yourself, unlocked at Level 58. Or, you can choose the better and way cooler option, which is to capture yourself a Smokie!

To find this Pal, head over to the Shield Dragon Tunnel Fast Travel point and explore the large area in front of the cave. Generally, there are a bunch of Smokie running around this area both day and night!

Crafting a Harness

Palworld Smokie Harness

Once you’ve caught yourself a Smokie, head back to your Base and head to the Pal Gear Workbench, where you craft Harnesses. You’ll need to craft the Harness in order to use Smokie’s Special Ability. Here are the items you’ll need:

  • 20x Leather
  • 50x Fiber
  • 5x Dark Fragments
  • 40x Paldium Fragments

To use this ability, simply make Smokie your Active Pal, and then press the ability key to activate “Dig, Dog. Dig!”

Where to Find Chromite Deposits

Palworld Tunnel Entrance

So, you have your Smokie, equipped with a Harness. Return to the Shield Dragon Tunnel Entrance and head inside. Proceed through the winding tunnel, and then take out the Silvegis within.

If you condense Smokie, or simply raise its level with a Starfruit, you will gain an increased amount of Chromite simply by having it active alongside you.

Now, just use the ability of Smokie around the room, and you will find a bunch of Chromite Deposits! Every time you mine one of these, as long as Smokie is alongside you, you’ll generally earn over 200 Chromite per deposit! After a few trips back and forth, you’ll have more than enough Chromite to last a lifetime!

Chromite Uses

Palworld Hexolite

So, you’ve got yourself a good amount of Chromite. What can we use this ore for? Well, honestly, not a lot! In fact, Chromite is only used to create the Hexolite Ingot.

The thing is, this Ingot is ridiculously useful, as you’ll need a massive amount of them to craft late-game gear. To create the ingot, you’ll need 1 piece of Chromite alongside 1 piece of Hexolite Quartz. Mass-produce as many Hexolite Ingots as you can to craft late-game armours, workstations, spheres and more!
