Paralives: Romance Guide (How to Get Married)

Paralives makes you work to build relationships between your Paras, whether it's friendship or romantic. When you're used to how easy the Sims makes it to form a relationship, particularly in The Sims 2 and beyond, it can be frustrating to learn that Paralives kicks up the difficulty, and includes an element of luck. However, it might seem more realistic, as relationships in real life aren't always easy to form and maintain.

The biggest feature you need to pay attention to in Paralives when it comes to relationships is the Storyteller. Depending on which Storyteller you choose, the difficulty of building relationships changes. You can change your Storyteller in the menu if you're finding the game too difficult, as this is the primary way to shift difficulty in Paralives for most parts of the game, including relationships.

Starting a Relationship

When you have the Paras you want to be in a relationship together, have them start a conversation. As they talk, the conversation bar fills. When it's full, select it for the chance to make a direct impact on the relationship between those Paras. Most choices improve the relationship by shifting the mood of the Paras, but there are occasionally options that hurt the relationship, such as the "Find a Reason to Leave Conversation" option. I recommend not picking those choices if you want to start a romance, and then maintain it.

Your goal is to get the cards that let you discuss the relationship's state, which has multiple choices behind it. You need the card that lets you make the relationship exclusive to appear.

Every time there's a card that's romantic or flirty, such as kissing or winking, pick that card. The only exception is if there's a Storyteller card that's also an option that gives the relationship a plus one to Lover. It's a slow process, but this raises the relationship between those Paras, which will start giving you more choices to deepen the relationship.

How to Get Married in Paralives

As the relationship improves through flirty cards and the Storyteller's Lover increases, you'll start having more options to deepen the romantic relationship. Unfortunately, you need a bit of luck here, as the options appear at random. The choice you want to look for is the proposal one. It has a percentage on it, which tells you how likely the proposal is to succeed. When you pick this option, there's a wheel that spins to decide if the proposal succeeds. If the needle lands in the green section, it's a success.

If the proposal fails, you simply have to keep repeating this process until the choice appears again and hope that it succeeds.

Like the proposal option, you have to wait for marriage choices to appear in order to have your Paras get married. The choice you'll likely get first is the option to elope. If you pick that option, then you'll have successfully gotten your Paras married.

The relationship system is quite frustrating right now. I'd love to see the bigger choices be available when you select the Paras in the relationship, letting you choose to propose, get married, or move in together directly through that menu. For now, you need persistence and luck to succeed romantically in Paralives.
