2026 marks the 30th anniversary of the Persona franchise, which means new merchandise, and some key name changes are suggesting that remakes for older entries are on the way.
In recent years, Atlus has remade Persona 3 for modern platforms, and another is on the way, with Persona 4 Revival announced in 2025. Persona 5 is still too new to receive a remake, so that only leaves the first two games and the spin-offs, to say nothing of the Shin Megami Tensei franchise that Persona comes from, which has plenty of titles in dire need of new iterations.

Persona 5's Strangest Crossover Yet Teased
A new video game franchise is teasing a crossover with the Phantom Thieves of Heart from Persona 5, and it might be the strangest one to date.
It seems that plans are afoot for the early Persona games. There's an official page for Persona's 30th anniversary merchandise on Amazon, and fans have noticed some strange changes regarding the old games.
Persona 1 & 2 Remakes/Remasters Could Be On The Way
The new Persona merchandise refers to the first game as Persona 1 Origins and to the sequel duo as Persona 2 Duality. These terms have never been used before for those titles, including their remakes/ports for the Sony PSP.
It's possible that this rebranding is referring to new iterations of the games, which could be released as part of the anniversary. The original Persona and the sequel duology are in dire need of remakes for modern platforms, and they could be part of a larger reveal event, announced alongside the long-rumored Persona 6.
The new Persona merchandise refers to the first game as Persona 1 Origins and to the sequel duo as Persona 2 Duality.
The new terms suggest there's more to the anniversary than just simple ports, since it would be easy to throw the original Persona on PSN or give it away as a PlayStation Plus title. The sequel duology is a little trickier, as the PS1 version of the first game (Persona 2: Innocent Sin) never received a localization, though the PSP version did. Meanwhile, the second game (Persona 2: Eternal Punishment) did receive a localization, but the PSP didn't.
The original Persona games are decent Shin Megami Tensei spin-offs, but they're not in the same league as Persona 3-5. The full remake treatment would suit the early games and, hopefully, give new fans an appreciation of how they led to the later entries.
