After a year of waiting, Atlus has finally given a release date for Persona 4 Revival, but fans who were hoping to return to the Midnight Channel will be waiting a while longer, as it's not launching until 2027.
Persona 4 is a JRPG set in the sleepy town of Inaba, where the ability to summon Personas (mystical spirits based on mythological gods and monsters) falls into the hands of a serial killer. The protagonist is a school kid who has arrived in Inaba to stay with family, who gains the power to call on Personas, and gathers a team to try and hunt down the killer, bringing an end to their rampage.
Persona 30th Anniversary Merch Hints At Remakes
2026 marks the 30th anniversary of the Persona franchise, and some of the merchandise might be hinting at fresh remakes of classic games.
Persona 4 is receiving a remake, called Persona 4 Revival, which was revealed back during the Xbox Games Showcase 2025. Now, a year later, at the same show, Atlus announced the release date for Persona 4 Revival, alongside a solid release date. This time around, the trailer actually had gameplay footage, and was more than just a title reveal and a few screens worth of street shots.
Persona 4 Revival Launches February 2027
Image Via AtlusAccording to the trailer at the Xbox Games Showcase 2026, Persona 4 Revival is launching on February 18, 2027. The trailer also revealed that it's coming to Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 5, and PC, with a day one launch on Game Pass. Surprisingly, there was no mention of a Nintendo Switch 2 port, despite the system being strong enough to run the game.
The trailer for Persona 4 Revival shows that it has gone in a similar direction to Persona 3 Reload, where it has incorporated elements from Persona 5. Now, the game has a Baton Pass system, where characters can switch in combat to deal extra damage, allowing for more powerful combos.
According to the trailer at the Xbox Games Showcase 2026, Persona 4 Revival is launching on February 18, 2027.
Persona 4 Revival has also drastically improved the graphics. While fans asked why Persona 4 needed a remake, considering it has a HD remaster that already looks pretty good, the quality of the new visuals shows how much better the game can look. It maintains the cartoonish, anime-inspired visuals of the franchise, with a ton of flashiness and flair, matching the high tempo of the battles.
Content-wise, outside of the new combat mechanics, there doesn't appear to be anything drastically new in Persona 4 Revival. Persona 3 Reload was similar, so it's likely that Persona 4 Revival's changes will be focused on quality-of-life improvements and visual flair, rather than adding new content.
The trailer confirms that Persona 4 Revival is based on Persona 4 Golden, the updated version of Persona 4 on the PS Vita that added new content. This was proven by the appearance of the fishing minigame, as well as Marie, the girl in the white and black skirt, who was exclusive to Golden. Whether the game adds anymore content alongside the Golden updates remain to be seen.
It's just a shame that Persona 4 Revival isn't launching this year, but it's not surprising considering that everything is avoiding the end of the year like the plague, due to the arrival of Grand Theft Auto 6. As such, early 2027 is a fine launchpad for Persona 4 Revival, as it gives it time to breathe, and will hopefully open the Midnight Channel to a whole new audience.
