PlayStation, and even some other Sony brands, have been largely radio silent on social media since July 1. That's the day PlayStation announced it would be ending production of physical discs beginning in 2028. This announcement was met immediately with widespread backlash that flooded nearly every Sony-controlled social media account, many of which have nothing to do with gaming. On Tuesday, PlayStation broke that silence to show off its new FlexStrike fight stick. Reactions are about what you might expect.

In the first two hours following PlayStation's return to social media, the X post in question has received over 30,000 replies and nearly 9,000 quotes. The same post on Instagram has over 6,000 angry replies. These comments are almost entirely negative that continue to hold PlayStation and Sony's feet to the fire over the wildly unpopular physical disc news. While scrolling through responses, I couldn't find a single comment that engaged with the video detailing the wireless FlexStrike fight stick's features.

Reactions, which are almost entirely negative, do vary in their anger toward PlayStation. Many commenters are continuing the simple refrain that they want physical games back and that digital is not the future. This frustration is understandable considering the initial announcement of the new policy from PlayStation came only days after Sony pulled over 500 movies from PlayStation libraries. This reminded many that digital "ownership" can be taken away at any time.

The other main camp of responses to PlayStation's new post is a mix of disbelief and anger over the company's return to social media. "Seriously, the strategy is to ignore millions of us players? Not a single mention, even just to show a minimum of respect? Ostrich strategy and that's it?" reads one quote post. While Sony seems like it might want people to forget the physical disc decision, fans have so far refused to do so. There is even an online petition urging Sony to reverse the announcement; it has reached over 175,000 signatures. Sony and PlayStation have still not acknowledged or responded to the backlash.
