On Monday, Sony Interactive Entertainment announced it was raising the price of PlayStation Plus subscriptions. In the announcement, which only came via a post on X, the company stated PlayStation Plus "prices will start" at $10.99 for a one-month subscription and $27.99 for a three-month subscription. As no other prices were listed, the announcement from PlayStation implied only the Essential tier was being affected. Turns out, that wasn't the case.

On Wednesday, prices across all tiers of PlayStation Plus went up. One month of PlayStation Plus Extra is now $16.99 (up $2) while three months is $43.99 (up $4). A one-month subscription of PlayStation Plus Premium, the highest tier, is now $19.99 (up $2). A three-month subscription has increased by $5 to $54.99.

Annual PlayStation Plus subscriptions remain unchanged for all tiers. For a 12-month subscription, Essential costs $79.99, Extra costs $134.99, and Premium costs $159.99.

As PlayStation's original post stated, the price increase will only be for new subscribers (except for PlayStation Plus users in Turkey and India). Those currently subscribed will only see their price affected if "the existing subscription changes or lapses."

PlayStation Plus Essential is the lowest (and cheapest) tier of the subscription service. Players get online multiplayer access, monthly free games, and more. The free games for May include EA Sports FC 26, Wuchang: Fallen Feathers, and Nine Sols.

PlayStation Extra and Premium users get more benefits, like access to the PlayStation Game Catalog, which added Star Wars Outlaws, Red Dead Redemption 2, and more this month. Premium subscribers get access to even more games in the Classics Catalog and can stream movies from the Sony Pictures Catalog.

The PlayStation Plus price increases come two months after Sony announced price increases for the PS5 (again) and PlayStation Portal.
