Following its grand unveiling at last month’s Xbox Developer Direct, Game Freak’s Beast of Reincarnation now has a release date. The action RPG will launch on Aug. 4 for PlayStation 5, Windows PC, and Xbox Series X.
Beast of Reincarnation is Game Freak’s stab at a AAA game outside the Pokémon franchise. Described as a “one-person, one-dog” action RPG, it takes place in a post-apocalyptic version of Japan that’s full of giant monsters. We got a deep dive on how it works in January, but it made another appearance during today’s PlayStation State of Play, where it received a release date trailer.
The two-minute video doesn’t tell us much we didn’t already learn in January. We get to see plenty of footage of protagonist Emma and her dog traversing ruined landscapes. There are big monsters, there’s industrial decay, and there’s a piece of music that gives the whole thing just a bit of Nier flavoring.
As of right now, Beast of Reincarnation is the first major AAA game to line up a summer release date. We'll see how long that last, considering that the State of Play showed off more big games slated for this year that have yet to get release dates, including Control Resonant.
Beast of Reincarnation will launch on Aug. 4 for PlayStation 5, Windows PC, and Xbox Series X.
