Pokémon Go Frigibax Community Day event guide

Pokémon Go is having a Frigibax Community Day event on Saturday, June 20 from 2-5 p.m. in your local time.

As expected with a Community Day event, Frigibax will spawn in huge numbers with a high chance for it to appear shiny. There are also several other bonuses and perks, which we’ve listed out below.

How to find a shiny Frigibax

As per old research by the now-defunct website The Silph Road (via Wayback Machine), shiny rates on Community Days are about 1 in 24, which means that if you keep playing throughout the three-hour window, you should find quite a few shiny Pokémon.

If you’re short on time or Poké Balls, you can pop an Incense, then quickly tap each Frigibax to check for shiny ones, running from any that aren’t shiny. Notably, any Frigibax you’ve already tapped will face where your player is standing, so that should help identify which ones you may have already checked.

If you evolve Arctibax into Baxcalibur from 2-9 p.m. in your local time, it will learn the charged move Glaive Rush.

If you miss out on evolving it during this period, you will likely be able to evolve it during a Community Day weekend event in December to get Glaive Rush. If you don’t want to wait, you can use an Elite TM to get the move.

In PvE content (raids and gyms), Baxcalibur is a powerful ice-type when set up with Ice Fang and Avalanche. It's also a fine dragon-type attacker with Ice Fang and Glaive Rush, but it gets outclassed by quite a few Pokémon (Black Kyurem, White Kyurem, Eternatus, Origin Forme Palkia, and Origin Forme Dialga, and that's not including shadows and Megas).

For PvP, Baxcalibur may see some use in Master League, with Dragon's Breath, Glaive Rush, and Avalanche.

It should also be noted that Baxcalibur has an unreleased Mega form that is bound to be powerful. It's likely that Baxcalibur will be featured in Super Mega Raids (as other Mega Pokémon that debuted in Pokémon Legends: Z-A did), so any high-IV Baxcalibur you catch during this event could be Mega Evolved down the line. In fact, you very likely want to keep a Baxcalibur or two with its Community Day move, Glaive Rush, as its Mega Evolved version will likely make it an excellent dragon-type attacker.

The following bonuses will be active during Frigibax Community Day:

  • Tripled Stardust for catching Pokémon
  • Doubled candy for catching Pokémon
  • Doubled chance for level 31+ trainers to get XL candy from catching Pokémon
  • Incense lasts three hours
  • Lure Modules last one hour
  • Frigibax special photobombs when taking snapshots
  • One additional special trade
  • Stardust cost halved for trading

That said, you should definitely pop a Star Piece and an Incense and try to nab some powerful Frigibax.

If you can Mega Evolve Charizard X, Dragonite, Ampharos, Sceptile, Altaria, Glalie, Salamence, Latias, Latios, Rayquaza, or Abomasnow, you’ll score additional Frigibax Candy per catch.

Additionally, if you were lucky enough to get the daily version of the "Choose Your Path" research this week, you can opt to select the "Catch (XP)" bonus, which will grant you 1.5x XP for catching Pokémon with nice throws or better.

Following the pattern of previous Community Days, Frigibax's big day also will have Lure Module bonuses persist until four hours after the event formally ends. Frigibax will continue to spawn around Incenses until 9 p.m., so if you miss out on the primetime hours from 2-5 p.m., you can still find shiny Frigibax from lures at the same Community Day rate.
