Here at DualShockers, we love to catch them all. And though I grew up in a time when Pokémon would never consider using DLC, I'm actually glad recent entries have tried it out. After all, the only thing better than playing a monster-catcher is having more monsters to catch. And the Pokémon Legends: Z-A Mega Dimension DLC added some truly fantastic and weird new Mega Evolutions.
This list is focused entirely on those new Mega Evolutions from the Mega Dimension, and there are some great and truly weird choices included. Like other similar lists, this one ranks them according to relative weaknesses, while factoring in their potential move sets and even coolness.

18 Mega Crabominable
Frosty and Flawed
Mega Dimension DLC |
Fighting / Ice |
Thunder Punch |
Close Combat |
Fire, Fighting, Flying, Psychic, Steel, Fairy |
I always like it when a Pokémon with a basic evolution line gets a new form. So on the one hand, I'm happy that Crabominable got a Mega Evolution. On the other hand, since it doesn't get any new typing, it's still susceptible to a whopping 6 different types of attacks, which is pretty jarring.
On the plus side, Mega Crabominable's Attack stat gets even stronger, meaning this frosty crab can really put the hurt on foes. You'll want to do so with moves like Mach Punch, Ice Hammer, and Zen Headbutt, and maybe protect itself with moves like Protect or Bulk Up.
17 Mega Baxcalibur
Sword in the Frigid Stone
Mega Dimension DLC |
Dragon / Ice |
Scale Shot |
Ice Hammer |
Fighting, Rock, Dragon, Steel, Fairy |
I remember the first time I fought against a Baxcalibur. I was totally uncertain what the typing was, and the frigid dragon nearly ripped my head off. Afterwards, I realized how fragile the creature was, which diminished the appeal of the creature more than a little.
Sure, it's okay for a Pokémon to have weaknesses, but I usually don't have to worry much about Dragon types. With the dual Dragon / Ice typing, though, poor Baxcalibur suffers from a handful of weaknesses. Thankfully, both the regular form and Mega Baxcalibur have pretty high HP and ATK, which means they can still wallop foes.
You won't want to leave anything to chance, and use really hard-hitting moves like Glaive Rush, Icicle Crash, Zen Headbutt, and Earthquake. If you're fast enough, this icicle might not even have a chance to melt!
16 Mega Golurk
Ghost Quake
Mega Dimension DLC |
Ground / Ghost |
Heavy Slam |
Dynamic Punch |
Water, Grass, Ice, Ghost, Dark |
Ghost Pokémon are some of my favorites in the series. Sure, they don't make all that much sense, but they let Game Freak fly their freak flags with some bizarre ideas. And the Ground / Ghost Mega Golurk is no exception.
Essentially serving as a traditional Golem (not the exploding Rock one), Mega Golurk is sturdy with good DEF and SP DEF, and pretty impressive HP backed up by strong ATK. So it can actually withstand attacks, even when they're one of the five types that really hurt it.
If you're playing an attack-centric version, you can use moves like Double-Edge and Earthquake. Or if you want to be a more sneaky player, you might prefer moves like Phantom Force and Stealth Rock. Either way, this is another delightfully weird Ghost contender.
15 Mega Staraptor
A Fighting Chance
Mega Dimension DLC |
Fighting / Flying |
U-Turn |
Brave Bird |
Lightning, Ice, Flying, Psychic, Fairy |
I'm a bit torn about Mega Staraptor. On the one hand, that swoosh of red looks nice, and it trades its usual Normal / Flying typing for a Fighting / Flying. Which is cool in theory, but it also means the bird suffers from two additional weaknesses.
That said, Mega Staraptor is still fast and hits hard, meaning you can get some hits in before it gets struck by lightning, ice or other devastating attacks. Which is helpful, since that gives you time to use moves like Agility and Feather Dance.
When you're ready to attack, you'll want to focus on your physical ATK stat to use moves like Close Combat, Brave Bird or even an unexpected Outrage.
14 Mega Glimmora
Poisonous Flower
Mega Dimension DLC |
Rock / Poison |
Acid Armor |
Explosion |
Water, Psychic, and Steel, super weak to Ground |
I have a bit of a mixed history with Poison and Rock Pokémon. So when we have a dual Rock / Poison type like Mega Glimmora, I'm not sure exactly how to use them. Generally speaking, I find they're better at being tricky and mischievous than being an outright attacker.
The one thing Mega Glimmora has going for it is that it has good DEF and SP DEF, and benefits from a high HP and pretty solid SP ATK stat. Meaning it can take a good amount of punishment while messing with opponents.

When you do retaliate, you'll want to try moves like Ancient Power, Sludge Wave, and Meteor Beam, and mess with your opponent by utilizing moves like Flash Cannon and Endure.
13 Mega Heatran
Fiery Maw
Mega Dimension DLC |
Fire / Steel |
Scorching Sands |
Magma Storm |
Water and Fighting, super weak to Ground |
Now we're getting into some of the more stable offerings on this list. Better yet, Mega Heatran takes a no-evolution Pokémon and finally makes it something worth celebrating.
Mega Heatran is quite sturdy, only suffering from two regular weaknesses and one super weakness to Ground. Meaning that in many other match-ups, it can blast foes with SP ATK moves, especially thanks to Abilities like Flash Fire.
That means you'll want to focus almost exclusively on Fire moves like Heat Wave, Fire Blast, and Fire Spin, and use that Steel typing to power up with moves like Metal Sound and Iron Defense.
12 Mega Chimeco
Tinkling Bells
Mega Dimension DLC |
Psychic / Steel |
Metal Sound |
Boomburst |
Fire, Ground, Ghost, Dark |
Let's just be honest — Chimeco always looked like a wind chime. So it just makes sense that Mega Chimecho finally takes the step of transforming the Psychic into a Psychic / Steel-type monster.
It's a good thing that Mega Chimeco only has a few weaknesses, since it doesn't boast really amazing stats. That said, it should definitely lean into its defenses and focus on using SP ATK to battle other monsters.
When you're ready to attack, Mega Chimeco should try moves like Psybeam, Boomburst, Energy Ball, and Shadow Ball. If nothing else, at least Mega Chimeco finally looks great and has neat typing.
11 Mega Darkrai
Evil Eye
Mega Dimension DLC |
Dark |
Blizzard |
Dark Pulse |
Fighting, Bug, Fairy |
It's already great when you add a Legendary Pokémon to your lineup. But when that same monster gets a Mega Evolution? That's truly when you feel overwhelmed with dark powers, thanks to the likes of Mega Darkrai.
While Mega Darkrai doesn't have the best SPD stat, it benefits from a tremendous SP ATK, and all the other stats are quite respectable. Combine that with only three weaknesses, and you have a Dark tank that can take and dish out a lot of pain.
When Mega Darkrai is ready to punish opponents, you can do so with moves like Ominous Wind, Psybeam, Dark Void, and Sludge Bomb. A truly shadowy fighter.
10 Mega Meowstic
Psychic Kitten
Mega Dimension DLC |
Psychic |
Dark Pulse |
Future Sight |
Bug, Ghost, Dark |
Meowstic is another monster that's been suffering from a lack of evolutionary options, so I'm actually quite happy it finally got one in Mega Meowstic. Not only does it look pretty cool, but it only suffers from three different Type match-ups.
Combine all that with a powerful SP ATK stat as well as pretty good SPD and defenses, and Mega Meowstic might just be what your team needs. Though, as a Psychic type, it might start fights with moves like Reflect or Taunt.
When Mega Meowstic is ready to retaliate, it can do so with powerful SP ATK moves like Moonblast, Swift, Energy Ball, and even Earth Power.
9 Mega Scovillain
Hot Sauced
Mega Dimension DLC |
Grass / Fire |
Trailblaze |
Overheat |
Poison, Flying, Rock |
One of my favorite things in games is silly pun names. So when you have a Grass / Fire Pokémon named after the Scoville scale of pepper intensity, I already love the monster. Throw in a two-headed pepper style, and Mega Scovillain is fantastic.
What's best about Mega Scovillain is that both ATK and SP ATK moves will hit with similar intensity. Meaning it can choose from a huge lineup of amazing attacks. As someone who loves to have walking Swiss Army knives able to adapt to any situation, that is a huge draw.
