The joy and charm of Pokémon Pokopia lies in the fact that your journey is one that's mostly up to you. However you choose to restore the deserted Kanto region is up to you, with many builds to choose from, but there are plenty of ways to go about it and even more abilities you can pick up along the way; whether it's the moves you pick up from various Pokémon, or more traditional skills that can grant you some surprisingly strong incentives.
One such skill is Cooking, though it's not one you can pick up right away during your adventures. You'll need to make a certain degree of progress in the overarching story, but once you unlock it, the effort is more than worth it. If you're not sure where to start, here's how to unlock Cooking in Pokémon Pokopia, and all Cooking Recipes you can learn as well.
Where to Unlock Cooking in Pokémon Pokopia
To unlock cooking in Pokopia, you first need to reach the Rocky Ridges region via the west gate in the Withered Wasteland, the game's starting area. After completing the 'Yawn Up a Storm' important request with Slowpoke, you'll achieve the 'Great' Trainer status required to get through both the east and west gates.
Make your way into the Rocky Ridges, and you'll need to fix up that region's PC kiosk first (rebuilding the Pokémon Center is not required). Once done, speak to Professor Tangrowth, and he'll show you to a barrel dangling by a chain near the workbench. It turns out that a poor lad named Chef Dente is stuck inside the barrel, and you'll need to help get him out. Initially, Tangrowth will suggest cutting the chain holding up the barrel with your Cut move. Jump onto the crates nearby and attempt this, and it'll purposefully end in failure.
Dente will then hint that you need to learn his cooking recipes to boost your powers many times over, particularly so you can help free him. He'll then sing a jingle about how to make Salads, and ask that you craft a Cutting Board to help you do so. To do that, Tangrowth says that you'll need to find a Pokémon in the region called Dartrix. To make them spawn, you'll need to create a Pointed Tree-shaded Rocky Tall Grass habitat.
Head for the area with minecart tracks, and near the far wall you should see a pointed tree with a boulder nearby. Use Strength to push the boulder next to the tree, then use Leafage to spawn tall grass patches around it until it becomes the habitat you need. Once you see the familiar rustle in the grass, inspect it to get Dartrix to spawn. Speak to it and ask it if it can make cutting boards. It'll say yes, but you'll need to make them a Perch first.
Craft a Perch, then place it at Dartrix's habitat. They'll thank you and provide the Cutting Board Recipe as a reward. Head to your nearest crafting table and make a Cutting Board (requires 2 x Lumber), and this will enable you to start cooking Salads, and eventually other types of food. Continue following the questline with Chef Dente to learn how to cook Bread and Hamburger Steak. Soup is optional, but you can learn it as well.
