As the month draws to a close, it is time for the usual subscription updates, and PlayStation wasted no time revealing the free games for the PlayStation Plus Essential lineup in May this Wednesday.
According to the PlayStation Blog, this month’s selection is set to strike a nerve with two of the most fervent types of fans: Soulslike veterans and football enthusiasts. If you fall into either category (or both!), you’re in for a treat.
The Road to the 2026 World Cup and Double Trouble
In total, three games will be joining the service this month: EA Sports FC 26 (PS4, PS5), Nine Sols (PS4, PS5), and Wuchang: Fallen Feathers (PS5).
The headliner for May is undoubtedly EA Sports FC 26. Its arrival couldn't be better timed, serving as the ultimate warm-up for the 2026 World Cup, which kicks off in June – less than two months away! With the Champions League also reaching its fever pitch in May, football fans have plenty of reasons to be excited.
EA’s football title features the massive Football Ultimate Team mode and a staggering amount of licensed content: over 20,000 players, 750+ clubs and national teams, 120+ stadiums, and more than 35 leagues. So yeah, it’s the perfect way to live out the sport's biggest season from your own living room.
In total, three games will be joining the service this month: EA Sports FC 26 (PS4, PS5), Nine Sols (PS4, PS5), and Wuchang: Fallen Feathers (PS5).
For those who prefer brutal combat to penalty kicks, May delivers in spades. First up is Nine Sols, a fantastic and punishing 2D action-platformer. Its combat is heavily inspired by Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice, prioritizing precise deflections and parries over mindless dodging. It was easily one of the standout indie titles of 2024, making it an absolute must-play for fans of the Souslike genre.
Rounding out the trio is Wuchang: Fallen Feathers, the densest offering of the month. Set during the turbulent final years of the Ming Dynasty in China, you play as Wuchang, a pirate warrior who awakens with no memory of her past. In this context, you must master various combat styles, ancient firearms, and even absorb abilities from defeated foes.
Whether you're looking to lift the World Cup trophy or finally overcome a boss that's been haunting your dreams, May's PS Plus lineup offers the perfect mix of high-stakes competition and deep, atmospheric exploration! You can add these titles to your library starting May 5th.
