I Thought It Would Never Be Discovered Red Dead Redemption 2 Dev Reacts To New Mystery Find

Covering the video games industry since 2017, with experience in news, articles, lists, and reviews (and I blame The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask for that).

If you are a fan of RPGs and want a third-person version: Tayná Garcia is a Brazilian journalist (but you can call her Tay) who ended up working with video games after finishing Zelda: Majora's Mask when she was a kid. With more than eight years of experience in the segment, she has been an assistant editor at Jovem Nerd in the past and is currently a contributor at DualShockers and a writer for gaming magazines for Editora Europa. Oh, and she may like Hideo Kojima a bit too much.

The Red Dead Redemption 2 community has been sent into an absolute frenzy over the last few days, and the reason is that, even seven years after the game’s initial release, players have discovered a brand-new mystery that literally has left everyone intrigued.

The puzzle in question was hidden in plain sight (or perhaps not so plain, considering how long it took to find), and involves locating specific spider webs and pole carvings scattered across the map that, when overlaid together, form the distinct shape of a spider.

By following this mysterious trail on the spider’s legs, which we detailed in a previous article, players are eventually led to a site known as “Dodd’s Bluff”, located on the western part of Fort Wallace.

This is where the trail currently ends, leaving the community confused and divided: was this just an elaborate prank by the folks at Rockstar Games, or is there still a final, massive secret waiting to be triggered?

Either way, the developers themselves seem to be blown away by the wild mystery hunt fueled by the passion of the Red Dead Redemption 2 community!

Former Rockstar Developer Stunned by the Communitys Dedication

A former developer from the studio recently spoke out about the new spider discovery in a post on X (formerly Twitter), validating the fan’s hard work.

The developer is Adam Butterworth, who worked as a QA tester on the game and is currently an audio test engineer at Remedy Entertainment.

Commenting on the find, he wrote: “Absolutely wild people have found this. I remember hearing about this and thinking it would never be discovered.” It was a simple post, but one that definitively proves Rockstar placed those spider webs there with intent, confirming that this is indeed a legitimate mystery and not a series of glitches.

Naturally, it didn't take long for eager players to flood Butterworth’s post with pleas for more information, desperate to know if they had reached the end of the line or if there was one more step to uncover.

These games have such immersive universes that the optional content ends up being just as good as the main campaign.

“So, what more do you know? Please, we are starving for information,” wrote one player. “Please, can we get a hint, if you have one? Even just 'Yes, there is something to discover',” begged another. While Butterworth hasn't dropped any further clues yet, his acknowledgment has breathed new life into the investigation.

Whether or not there is more to be revealed, one thing is certain: the passion and curiosity of Red Dead Redemption 2 players are truly something to be praised. These moments are what make the game so special – sharing new finds with others and discussing wild fan theories! It definitely brings communities and people together, and at the end of the day, that is exactly what video games are all about.

Red Dead Redemption 2, originally released in 2018, is available for PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S, and PC, so you can check out the spider web mystery by yourself on these platforms.
