Red Dead Redemption 2 Fans Are Losing It Over A New Creepy Mystery Found 7 Years After Launch

Covering the video games industry since 2017, with experience in news, articles, lists, and reviews (and I blame The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask for that).

If you are a fan of RPGs and want a third-person version: Tayná Garcia is a Brazilian journalist (but you can call her Tay) who ended up working with video games after finishing Zelda: Majora's Mask when she was a kid. With more than eight years of experience in the segment, she has been an assistant editor at Jovem Nerd in the past and is currently a contributor at DualShockers and a writer for gaming magazines for Editora Europa. Oh, and she may like Hideo Kojima a bit too much.

Red Dead Redemption 2 is one of the few titles featuring an open world so vast and meticulously detailed that players remain obsessed with its side quests, characters, and lingering myths.

I mean, even years later after its initial launch, the community still debates about the legendary channel catfish that apparently can't be caught (but some think that there is a way no one ever found out), whether the elusive Gavin actually exists, and if Princess Isabeau Katharina Zinsmeister is still hiding in some forgotten corner of the map.

And it appears that the western world Rockstar Games created still holds some secrets that have eluded even the most dedicated hunters! That’s because a brand-new mystery has just been discovered, sending shockwaves through the community – an incredible feat considering it has been out for about seven years already.

A Trail of Spider Symbols in Red Dead Redemption 2 Brings New Mystery

A Trail of Spider Symbol in Red Dead Redemption 2 Brings New Mystery

So, basically, a discovery has been made in Red Dead Redemption 2, one of the gems from the Rockstar Games studio, involving spider webs and pole carvings that suddenly appear if you follow a deliberate path. It seems like an easter egg (or something bigger) that has gone completely unnoticed, and now the community is pretty obsessed with it.

The mystery was first reported by forum users Pariah87, u/FL4VA-01, and goldenplaysterraria, but it was fully deconstructed by the prominent YouTuber The Strange Man, who released a comprehensive video breakdown of the shocking find.

According to his investigation, a mysterious spider symbol can be found carved into a telegraph pole in the heart of New Hanover. Just above this carving, a spider web adorned with feathers spawns exclusively between 3:00 AM and 4:00 AM.

However, the discovery becomes truly fascinating (and quite eerie) when you overlay the spider symbol onto the game map. Its long legs point toward eight other telegraph poles, each featuring a strange spider web that spawns at different times, with a feather that can actually be shot off.

Just above this carving, a spider web adorned with feathers spawns exclusively between 3:00 AM and 4:00 AM.

But hey, the rabbit hole goes even deeper! At the exact center of this spider “drawing” on the map, players can find a ninth, larger spider web that spawns between 1:00 AM and 2:00 AM. When viewed from the correct angle, the letter “N” is clearly visible within the webbing, and players believe it means “North”.

Following this "North" lead brings you to another pole with a hidden carving underneath, showing the letter “W” this time, alongside five pole symbols – and this was literally the moment players realized they had stumbled onto something much larger than a simple easter egg, as Rockstar is famous for never placing details by mere coincidence.

Anyway, following the trail “West”, it leads you to five poles in a row. Upon shooting the fifth one, a hidden carving is revealed showing “NW” and a guitar symbol. Naturally, heading Northwest leads to Fort Wallace, where a few guitars can be found. One of these instruments points in a very specific Western direction, eventually leading players to a site known as “Dodd’s Bluff”.

The trail currently ends there, but the community is already deeply divided. The name "Dodd's Bluff" appears to be a play on words for "That's a bluff," leading many to believe this entire elaborate trail was an intentional troll by Rockstar Games. Others, however, are convinced that the "bluff" is just another layer of the puzzle and that a much larger mystery remains unsolved.

Regardless of the outcome, this discovery reinforces why Red Dead Redemption 2 is a masterpiece for me, and literally one of my favorite games ever! It is these small, haunting details that unite the gaming community to elaborate some pretty fun theories, proving that the secrets of the Wild West are far from being fully unearthed.

And what about you? Do you think it is just a trolling or a bigger mystery that will haunt us for another seven years? Let it in the commentary section below!
