In No Rest for the Wicked, you will collect various items and resources to help you survive the harsh environment and fierce foes. Resources like Saltstone will allow you to upgrade your city, giving you access to more items, but other resources are needed for crafting new weapons.

Before you can craft your own weapons and armor, you will need to research them, and this can only be done with one item: Research Papers. Without these, you will be forced to purchase your gear or find it on fallen enemies.

So, how do you get your hands on Research Papers in No Rest for the Wicked? Here are some good methods of finding them.

What Are Research Papers Used For?

No Rest for the Wicked Research Table

In No Rest for the Wicked, your main hub is a city called Sacrament, and within this city, you will find various merchants, along with tools that you can use to enhance your abilities.

In the central part of Sacrament, near an NPC named Davos, you will find the Scribe Table. This is where you, and your friends if they are in your world, can go to research crafting recipes.

The Scribe Table allows you to research different crafting recipes for the game's various weapons, armor, tools, food, etc. For instance, if you want to know how to craft a Yew Longbow, the Scribe Table is needed.

Each of the crafting recipes you can unlock requires you to spend Research Papers. You can choose to unlock a random crafting recipe by spending three Research Papers, or you can unlock a specific recipe of a weapon you have found by spending the correct number. The number varies depending on the complexity of the item.

Collecting Research Papers from Chests and Bounties

No Rest for the Wicked Map Route

As with many of the items in No Rest for the Wicked, your chances of getting Research Papers are randomized. This is similar to obtaining Embers in the game, where your best bet is to choose a path in an area and collect all the chests.

Chests are most likely to drop Research Papers for you, but you are able to get them from defeated enemies as well. I recommend taking the route through the Lowlands and Mariner's Keep.

There are multiple chests in this area that you can open for a chance at getting Research Papers. Another good path to run is through the Nameless Pass, as there are multiple chests in this area as well that are easily obtained.

While you are doing these runs, you can complete bounties. Bounties will get you extra items like weapons and armor, but they can also reward you with Embers and Research Papers.

You can obtain new bounties by speaking with Captain Randolph, who stands near the Whisper in Sacrament.

Run the Crucible for Research Papers

Another good method of getting Research Papers is by completing Crucible runs. The Crucible is a challenge area where you fight rooms of enemies.

These enemies have a chance to drop Research Papers, but there is also a room with multiple chests in it when you reach the halfway point. One Crucible run only takes about 20 minutes and has a chance to get you multiple Research Papers.
