One of the biggest points of discussion coming out of Resident Evil Requiem is that the cornball and human tank Leon Kennedy appears to be married, based on the fact that he can be seen putting a wedding band on his finger at the end of the game. Naturally, the fans are wondering who the lucky lady is, so much so that they’ve been asking Requiem director Koshi Nakanishi about it on social media. While Nakanishi has been tight-lipped about whether Leon ended up with Ada Wong, Claire Redfield, or, in a perfect world, Chris Redfield, it sounds like fans will get a definitive answer on this eventually.
In an interview with Eurogamer, Nakanishi said that Capcom’s intention with the scene was to show fans that Leon has somewhere to go after all the carnage he faces in Requiem. He spends a lot of time in the remains of his old stomping grounds, Raccoon City, and reflecting on all that he lost back in Resident Evil 2, but this scene communicates that he still has a home waiting for him.
“The answer will become clear some day, but not just yet. What we wanted to convey in the final scene is simple: Leon now has a ‘place to go home to’, and we hope you can imagine the peaceful moments he spends there,” Nakanishi said. “Leon is a man who says very little about the things that truly matter, but he would sacrifice himself without a second thought to save a life right in front of him. So what does his ring signify? Resolve? Or a vow? He may never voice the answer himself, but for now, after finishing a long battle, he has a ‘place to go home to’. Isn’t that enough?”
Nakanishi didn’t say whether or not this answer would come in Requiem’s upcoming DLC or a new game, but given that all this ambiguity has Leon shippers in a tizzy, the answer will probably multiply their online frenzy.
