Resident Evil Requiem leak confirms Leon is in the game

We know that FBI agent Grace Ashcroft will serve as the protagonist of Capcom's upcoming Resident Evil Requiem, but for months, players have been wondering if a different "good cop" might make an appearance in the game. Based on some recently leaked cover art, the answer is yes, Leon Kennedy will appear in Resident Evil Requiem.

As spotted by Eurogamer, someone appears to have accidentally uploaded the game's key art to the PlayStation Store a wee bit early. The image has since been removed from the online storefront, but not before players managed to snag a few screenshots. Resident Evil Requiem's cover art shows protagonist Grace Ashcroft (daughter of reporter Alyssa Ashcroft, from Resident Evil Outbreak) facing forward and holding up a flashlight or lantern, with an absolutely massive profile of the one and only Leon Kennedy lurking behind her.

This suggests that unlike that quick little Chris Redfield cameo players got at the end of Resident Evil 7, Leon has plenty to do in Requiem. With Leon and Grace as the only two characters featured in the image, it suggests that he'll play a pivotal role, despite not being the protagonist.

Back in June, game director Koshi Nakanishi suggested that Leon may not be in the game, as his calm, unflappable demeanor makes him "quite a bad match for horror [games]." Now, it seems Nakanashi may have just been attempting to keep Leon's presence in the game under wraps.

The Game Awards are just a few days away, and it's already been confirmed that Capcom will be giving viewers a new look at Resident Evil Requiem — which is set to launch on Feb. 27 — during the show. It's entirely possible that Capcom planned to use the awards show to announce Leon's inclusion in Requiem. Thanks to PlayStation getting a little trigger-happy with the key art, it seems the cat is out of the bag.
