It's been three years since Resident Evil 4, though, and fans were wondering if the remakes would continue. Following the success of the Resident Evil franchise, including both Resident Evil Requiem and the Resident Evil remakes.
Resident Evil 5 seemed like the logical next step, but given the notorious reception around the game, many weren't holding their breath. With that said, there were plenty of other classic Resident Evil games to choose from.
Resident Evil Leaker Claims Two Classics Are Getting The Remake Treatment -
A Resident Evil leaker is claiming that two of the classic entries in the franchise are next for the remake treatment and are coming in 2027/8.
Today at Summer Games Fest, it seems Capcom has made its choice: a remake of Resident Evil - Code: Veronica, simply titled Resident Evil Veronica, is coming in 2027.
It's been a heck of a run as of late for Capcom, launching Requiem and Pragmata this year alone to rave reviews, and they're showing no signs of slowing down. The crowd's reaction said it best when you could hear one person say, "Oh my god!"
Resident Evil Veronica Teases A New Look At Claire Redfield
Originally released in 2000 for the Sega Dreamcast, Resident Evil - Code: Veronica features Claire Redfield searching for her brother Chris in Paris, France, three months after the events of Resident Evil 2.
Despite rave reviews, the game didn't sell as well as many would expect, though that was more than likely due to the fact that it was a Dreamcast exclusive. It would eventually be ported to the PlayStation 2 in 2001, the GameCube in 2003, and the PS3 and Xbox 360 a decade later in 2011. By then, though, the classic survival horror experience of Resident Evil had become stale, which prompted the gameplay rework in Resident Evil 4.
8 Horror Game Remasters we Would Love to See in 2026
These horror games are overdue for a modern touch-up in 2026.
There's no doubting that a proper modern-day remake will give Code: Veronica the TLC it needs. It's a fantastic game and a vital part of the Resident Evil timeline; it just happened to release on a console with a shrinking player base.
While concrete details on gameplay were a little light, we did get a new look at Claire Redfield. The trailer also heavily utilizes the first-person point of view, hinting that this remake will borrow from the first-person gameplay the franchise first introduced in Resident Evil 7. With the game being retitled, a first in the RE Remake "franchise," it will be interesting to see how Capcom handles revamping the game for modern consoles and audiences.
