Resident Evil Veronica is on the way, but it's going to be missing one of the best features introduced in Resident Evil Requiem, though fans might be able to sway developers if they complain enough.
The mainline Resident Evil games were predominantly third-person survival horror games, with the only first-person entries being lightgun shooters. That changed with Resident Evil 7: Biohazard, which returned the series to its horror roots by starring a regular guy who was thrown into a house full of mutated monsters. Resident Evil Village kept the first-person perspective, though a third-person mode was added over time.
The first trailer for Resident Evil Veronica, the upcoming modern remake of Resident Evil - Code: Veronica, was shown at Summer Games Fest 2026. In the trailer, Claire Redfield is shown searching for her brother, giving fans hope that a feature introduced in Resident Evil Requiem will be included in the game. Unfortunately, the developers revealed to GamesRadar that the feature won't be present.
Resident Evil Veronica Won't Have A First-Person Camera Perspective
In Resident Evil Requiem, the player could switch between first and third-person perspectives for the playable characters, making the horror feel scarier, and the action segments easier to track. Sadly, this option won't be present in Resident Evil Veronica, and players will be forced to play the game using a third-person perspective, as was the case with the original.
The dual camera worked well in Resident Evil Requiem because it had two characters with vastly different gameplay and story tones. Grace wasn't experienced with the biological horrors and creatures of the night, so it made sense for her segments to be the first-person scary mode, while Leon, the more seasoned warrior, gets the third-person action camera, so players can cheer while he does wrestling moves on zombies.

Assuming Resident Evil Veronica follows the same story as its predecessor, the game should also have dual protagonists, with Claire Redfield trapped in a prison, and Chris Redfield on his way to save her. Unfortunately, there isn't the same experience gap as there is in Resident Evil Requiem, as Clair survived the takeover and destruction of Raccoon City, while Chris made his way out of the dangerous halls of Spencer Mansion.
Resident Evil Veronica is still a year away, so if fans really want a first-person camera perspective, then they can petition Capcom to add one in. Even if the game can't include it at launch, there's still time to add it in post-launch DLC, as was the case with Resident Evil Village. It's not like the developers need to waste resources hiding the protagonist's face, like they did with Ethan, as it's just adjusting the camera for the first-person mode.
If a remake of Resident Evil 5 is also in the works, then it makes sense for a first-person mode to be included there also, considering it's a co-op game with some fantastic horror set pieces that would benefit from being closer to the action. If fans make their voice heard now, then it could also mean good things for Chris' next adventure.
It's a shame that Resident Evil Veronica is lacking the first-person option, as it was looking as if it would be a mainstay of the series going forward, especially following the popularity of Resident Evil 7 and Village. The initial trailer for Resident Evil Veronica showed a much darker and far less colorful experience than the original Resident Evil - Code: Veronica, so the first-person camera would be a much better fit here.
