Should you take the ozen from Nahe in Tides of Tomorrow?

Whether you should take the ozen in Tides of Tomorrow is the first, though certainly not the last, difficult choice in this narrative-driven adventure. As Nahe explains in the game's prologue, she's only got one bottle of ozen left, so accepting the ozen is a bit selfish… Then again, you are dying of plastemia.

Here's what happens when you accept or refuse the ozen in Tides of Tomorrow.

Should you accept Nahe's ozen in Tides of Tomorrow

Shortly after Nahe pulls your character from the ocean, at the start of Tides of Tomorrow's story, she'll invite you for a chat on the upper deck of her boat. At the end of the conversation, she'll explain that you're suffering from a deadly affliction called plastemia. The only thing that can delay your demise is a substance called ozen.

What this means, in practical terms, is that you will gradually lose health points while playing through Tides of Tomorrow's story (minus two points after leaving a location), and ozen is an HP-recovery item needed to survive. One bottle of ozen restores one HP. Due to a plastemia attack, you will arrive on the first island with five out of eight HP points.

If the player you're following refused to accept Nahe's final bottle of ozen, Nahe will offer the ozen to you, thus presenting you with your first choice: Should you accept or refuse the ozen?

  • If you take the ozen, your "survivalist" stat will increase. The player who follows you won't be offered any ozen by Nahe.
  • If you don't take the ozen, your "cooperative" stat will increase. The player following you will be offered a bottle of ozen by Nahe.

If you're in doubt whether to accept the ozen, know that doing so won't change the narrative or harm your friendship with Nahe. Then again, refusing the ozen won't destroy your chances of survival either; even if you receive extra damage (depending on your actions) and fail to find any ozen on the first island, you should have two HP left at the end, which offers you one more chance to obtain ozen on the next island.

Our advise, however, would be to take the ozen from Nahe. Think of it this way: If everyone refuses, nobody gets extra ozen, but if some players receive an extra bottle, it means there's extra ozen in circulation (assuming Nahe restocks every now and then). If you happen to have a successful ozen run on the first island, you can leave some bottles in a treasure chest for the next player to find. Doing so will boost your "cooperative" stat.
