Sul sul! Vault-Tec calling!
Image: Maxis Studios/EA/JuliusSims/Surely-simsA Sims 4 player has spent over 90 hours crafting an incredible tribute to the Fallout franchise. With season 2 of Fallout recently coming to a close, this incredibly expansive vault build is the perfect way to stay in the world a little bit longer.
For many Sims 4 fans, building has always been the paramount form of gameplay, with some barely even stepping into Live Mode at all. The latest series iteration arguably has the most robust Build and Buy mode of the entire franchise — fans even recently suspected its use by an actual building manufacturer. Recreating builds from pop culture is a popular pastime for builders, but something as complex as a multi-level Vault-Tec vault from Fallout is certainly more complex than the average undertaking.
Reddit user HeyR shared their epic vault build on The Sims subreddit, with additional details posted to their Tumblr under the username JuliusSims. In their post, they revealed that the Vault took over 90 hours in total to build. It's incredibly expansive, featuring three levels that include living quarters (including a special residence for the Overseer), an armory, a laboratory, a garden, a classroom, and much more.
In a written interview with Polygon, JuliusSims shared that the idea first formed while catching up on the most recent season of Fallout, then finding in-game items reminiscent of the vault. Though the creator is a huge fan of Fallout: New Vegas (clocking over 1,000 hours in the game), they drew a lot of inspiration from the series, praising its blend of faithful adaptation and fresh takes on aesthetics and sharing that they "looked at lots of pictures from the show when creating the residencies specifically."
Though they partially resorted to utilizing Sims 4 custom content from the creator Surely-Sims, much of what they needed was found across the Journey to Batuu, Get Famous, and Strangerville DLC. Such a large-scale build came with a few hiccups, but less than you might think. "I found that the trickiest part of building was the size limitations of the lots," JuliusSims said. "They are small! With that, I kind of had to adjust how I played with scale." Though they are more of a builder than a storyteller, they did share that they've been having fun loosely following a Fallout-themed legacy challenge from creator Jazzytraits.
This incredible Vault-Tec design is currently available for download on The Sims 4 gallery by searching for their user ID, realgrillgamer, and being sure to tick the option for lots with custom content being included. Because the lot utilizes custom content, players will also need to download its tray and mod files (a handy guide to which can be found here), which will soon be shared on the user's Tumblr.
