The video game industry almost managed a few years without a new The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim port, but the Dragonborn can’t be stifled forever, as the game has arrived on Nintendo Switch 2.

Skyrim was one of the first games revealed for the Nintendo Switch, promising a portable version that could be played on the go. As third-party games go, it was a great choice, considering the amount of content on offer, and the fact that it hadn’t been released on a Nintendo system up to that point.

Skyrim is getting a fresh coat of paint once more, as a new trailer on the Bethesda Softworks YouTube channel has announced a dedicated Nintendo Switch 2 port, featuring a cameo from Shirley Curry, aka Skyrim Grandma.

What’s New In The Nintendo Switch 2 Port Of Skyrim?

The Elder Scrolls V Skyrim

The Nintendo Switch 2 port of Skyrim has all of the features of the Anniversary Edition, which means it has all the DLC, access to the Creation Club fan content, as well as the Nintendo-exclusive content based on The Legend of Zelda series.

The changes in the Nintendo Switch 2 port of Skyrim are mostly technical. The game offers faster load times, higher resolution options, and better performance than the Nintendo Switch version.

Unlike some developers, who are charging for Nintendo Switch 2 upgrades, the Skyrim update is free for people who have the Anniversary Edition on the base Switch.

Fans shouldn’t be too surprised to see Skyrim getting another port in 2025. Chances are, it will get more when the PlayStation 6 and the Xbox Series X/S’ successors come out. If Todd Howard becomes the God-Emperor of mankind, like in Warhammer 40k, he’ll ensure every system gets Skyrim ports, whether they want them or not.
