Sony continues to lose the trust of PlayStation fans, as it has quietly raised the prices of every tier of PlayStation Plus, despite announcing prices for only one.

On May 18, 2026, Sony announced that the price of PlayStation Plus Essential would increase on May 20. Sony cited "ongoing market conditions" as the reason, which many fans found suspect, especially as the price increase only affects people who are signing up for the service, not people who remain subbed at the existing price.

April 2026 PlayStation Plus Extra Leak Features A Revamped Classic

Some of the PlayStation Plus Extra leaks for April 2026 have made their way online and they include a remastered version of one of the best PS4 games.

Sony initially only announced a price increase for PlayStation Plus Essential, which fans assumed meant that the other tiers would be spared. Turns out, Sony was hiding the fact that the rest of PlayStation Plus would also go up in price, as IGN has reported that the other tiers are now more expensive.

As of May 20, 2026, the price of PlayStation Plus Extra and Premium has gone up. Now, PlayStation Plus Extra costs $16.99 a month, and $43.99 for three months, while PlayStation Plus Premium costs $19.99 a month, and $54.99 for three months.

Naturally, fans are furious at not only the price increase, but the fact that the new charges weren't announced alongside the PlayStation Plus Essential changes. Sony was trying to obfuscate the bad news by just not announcing it.

Now, PlayStation Plus Extra costs $16.99 a month, and $43.99 for three months, while PlayStation Plus Premium costs $19.99 a month, and $54.99 for three months.

Unlike PlayStation Plus Essential, which is needed to play online games, PlayStation Plus Extra and Premium offer access to a games catalog, similar to Xbox Game Pass. In Premium's case, that extends to retro games, as well as streaming access for PlayStation 3 titles.

The fact that PlayStation Plus has gone up across the board, especially when Game Pass now has cheaper tiers, could spell a huge exodus from the service, especially with the cost of PlayStaton 5 hardware going up. Fans can only be nickel and dimed so much before they decide that these subscription services aren't worth it anymore.
