The curse of live-action Solid Snake may be lifting, though it could be a monkey's paw situation, as Sony has greenlit a Metal Gear Solid movie, meaning the chances of it being a good adaptation are in the air.
The Metal Gear Solid franchise seems tailor-made for a film adaptation, seeing as each game is practically a movie in terms of dialogue. Unfortunately, it has yet to come to pass, with projects that keep languishing in development hell. Metal Gear Solid is hardly the only video game franchise to be cheated out of a live-action project, but it seems particularly odd that an action franchise that starts out relatively grounded couldn't get a movie.
The great Solid Snake might finally be getting his big-screen debut. According to the Hollywood Reporter, Sony Columbia Pictures has greenlit a Metal Gear Solid movie, with a familiar set of duos heading the project.
The Metal Gear Solid movie is being made by Zach Lipovsky and Adam B. Stein of Final Destination: Bloodlines fame, with Avi Arad and Ari Arad, who have produced many films, including Borderlands and Ghost in the Shell. There's currently no word on a release date or even a cast for the Metal Gear Solid film, as it hasn't entered production yet.
Metal Gear Solid fans may be concerned by the choice of studio for the project, as Columbia is behind Gran Turismo, The Angry Birds Movie, and its sequel, to say nothing of the horrible Marvel and Ghostbusters movies it has produced.

Fortunately, the industry is currently in a golden age of video game adaptations, with projects like The Super Mario Bros. franchise bringing in a billion at the box office. There's hope that Metal Gear Solid will receive the care it deserves to bring Hideo Kojima's vision to the screen.
It's currently unclear which game in the Metal Gear Solid franchise will be adapted first, as there are a few options, but it's likely to skip the 8-bit era and jump straight to the original Metal Gear Solid on the PlayStation. This means a younger version of Solid Snake and FOXHOUND unit might soon come to life, in a live-action debut that's way overdue.
