So, you have decided to pick up a Souls title created by FromSoftware. Be warned, not everything is going to be all peaches and cream. Instead, things will be, as the names often suggest, dark.
10 Hardest Soulsborne DLC Bosses, Ranked
FromSoftware only knows how to cause true pain through its expansions.
Whether you are playing Dark Souls, Elden Ring, or Bloodborne, there are some great chances you will run into an NPC, and while it may seem nice to help them, you probably are going to ruin their lives in the process.
Many NPC questlines result in death or despair, making the games rather sad if you get invested in these characters' stories. Here are some lives you ruin by being involved as the protagonist.
Spoilers for several NPC quests in Soulsborne games below.
10 Siegmeyer of Catarina
Killed by his Daughter
Siegmeyer is a shining light in the world of Dark Souls, offering you a brighter outlook during your time in the miserable land of Lordran. Unfortunately, progressing through your quest helps him forge his own path through the land.
From the moment you meet him outside the large iron gates of Sen's Fortress, his fate has already been sealed. It would be great to tell him to turn around and go home, but you can't. Instead, he marches onward.
If you choose to kill all the demons in Lost Izalith before talking to Siegmeyer, you can end his quest, saving his life in the process, but then he thinks he is too weak to be of use anymore. If you intervene further, helping him to defeat the demons, he will either die from poison or die at the hands of his daughter in Ash Lake. And it hurts.
9 Boc, The Seamster
Rebirth
While wandering around Limgrave, you might hear a voice calling from the bushes. It might be best to ignore this voice, but if your curiosity gets the better of you, you will find Boc the Seamster — a demi-human with the ultimate goal of becoming beautiful through the means of rebirth.
If you choose to help him, he will make his way across The Lands Between, before ultimately ending up in Leyndell Royal Capital. At this point, you can let things go, and choose to save him by telling him he is beautiful. But if you give him what he desires, his life will be ruined.
Giving him the Larval Tear will move him to Rennala's chamber, where he will finally be human, but be more of a husk than a person. He will then fall over, dead.
8 The Little Girl
And Her Older Sister
The streets of Yharnam are no stranger to sad endings, and interfering with the NPCs throughout the night can lead to more death. Specifically, there is a young girl and her sister who reside in one of the homes.
Talking to this young girl will get you the Music Box to aid you in the Father Gascoigne fight. She will also mention that her mother has left. Here is where you can end things. Let the night, and subsequently, the beasts, take them.
If you return after the Father Gascoigne fight and give the young girl the broach, she will leave, ultimately meeting her end. Even worse, she dies alone, scared, and in the bowels of a giant pig, and it is thanks to you giving her the broach.

If you want punishing gameplay, but don't want to pay for a game outright, these are great options for Playstation fans.
7 Arianna
And Her Nightmarish Baby
Arianna is a prostitute in Yharnam who can be found in the lower Cathedral Ward. If you have killed at least one boss in the Cathedral Ward, Old Yharnam, Hemwick Charnal Lane, or Yahar'Gul, you can send her to Oedon Chapel.
Perhaps this isn't a choice you should make, as if you just leave her alone, she will find her way to Iosefka's Clinic, as indicated by finding her shoes there. Helping her out by sending her to Oedon Chapel, however, will result in her receiving much hatred from the other Yharnamites.
As you progress the story, your decision to help Arianna will only end badly, as one NPC can attempt to kill her, and progressing the story will result in her becoming pregnant and giving birth to a nightmarish child in the streets. You are then forced to kill her and her child to get the game's true ending.
6 Irina of Carim
Following a Dark Path
Irina is a poor blind girl from Carim in Dark Souls 3 who wants to become a Fire Keeper. Initially, you find her in a cell, being protected by Eygon of Carim. Play things right, and she can have a happy ending, but if you take things too far with your interference, you risk ruining everything.
Once you bring her to Firelink Shrine, you must purposefully only give her divine tombs, and choose to only purchase miracles from her. If you purchase dark miracles from her, that is where things begin to go south.
Irina will slowly start to lose her mind as you purchase the dark miracles, causing her to feel a darkness gnawing away at her. This leads her down a dark path which ultimately results in Eygon attacking you. You can then wear his gloves to give Irina some comfort before killing her as well, giving her the ending she desperately craves thanks to your intervention and insistence on teaching her dark spells.
5 Orbeck of Vinheim
Dead in the Library
Orbeck was an assassin who studied at the Dragon School. When you find him in the Road of Sacrifices, he will offer to teach you sorceries, but will request that you bring him the knowledge of various scrolls.
This seems like a simple story of a man requesting knowledge and wanting to run a small school with you as his student, but this interference ultimately leads to his death. Perhaps you should have left him in the Road of Sacrifices.
Orbeck's story can end in two ways. First, you can choose to kill him at the request of Yuria, or second, you can pursue knowledge with him. This ultimately leads to him wanting more knowledge. He then leaves for the Grand Archives and perishes, surrounded by books.
4 Patches
Volcano Manor
Patches appears in many FromSoftware titles, but his story in Elden Ring hits a little differently. You first encounter him in a cave, where he fakes being a boss before ultimately waving the white flag and becoming a merchant.
He will eventually move to Volcano Manor, where he seems to have developed a liking for Tanith. Here, he can remain a merchant, and if you choose not to interfere any further, his quest will end.
Unfortunately, we all know that you won't stop interfering, thus leading you to Rykard. Once he is defeated, all the NPCs in Volcano Manor will disperse, with Tanith going to the boss' room, and Patches making his way to the Shaded Castle.
Here, Patches will be much more melancholic, and will give you a gift for Tanith. He then makes his way back to the cave where it all began, this time lacking any of the kinship he discovered at Volcano Manor.
Every Soulsborne DLC, Ranked
While all of FromSoftware's expansions are brilliant, some stand out more than others.
3 Adella, Nun of the Healing Church
Consumed by Jealousy
After having one heck of a night, being hunted by various villlagers, getting kidnapped by a Snatcher, and being locked in a cell, you might think you have found a friendly sight when stumbling upon Adella in the Hypogean Gaol. Unfortunately, your intervention here isn't something that is needed.
Adella will be in a panic, but if you speak to her while wearing clothing from the Healing Church, she will calm down. Telling her to go to Oedon Chapel will result in her character offering you her blood. However, deciding to take Arianna's blood multiple times while Adella is around will result in her becoming crazed and killing Arianna.
When this happens, she then gets driven even more insane, causing her to attack you outside the church. If you instead choose to send Adella to Iosefka's Clinic, she will be tragically turned into a Celestial. The only way you can keep her safe is by not accepting any blood in the first place.
2 Hyetta
Feed Her Some Grapes
Hyetta has come to The Lands Between in search of a distant light and hoping to become a Finger Maiden. This is where you can choose to leave well enough alone, and not pursue her request any further.
If you decide to intervene, giving her those delicious Shabriri Grapes that totally aren't human eyes, she will continue searching for the light. This will ultimately lead her to the room just outside the Three Fingers.
Here, you can choose to open the door, receive the Frenzied Flame, and make her the Finger Maiden she wanted to be. Unfortunately, this also leads to her being burned alive by your touch. You could have just let her wander the fields alone.
1 Anri of Astora
Sacrificed
If you have played Dark Souls 3, you probably know Anri. They are the love interest turned sacrifice. They first appear on the Road of Sacrifice with Horace the Hushed. The pair can then move to Firelink Shrine. From here, Anri's questline can take two routes.
Choosing to pursue Anri's quest will lead you to Aldrich. Here, you can help Anri defeat this menace, but they will eventually end up turning against you, fighting you in either the Smouldering Lake or near the Cathedral of the Deep.
Choosing to follow the second questline for Anri will lead to you bringing them down to a sacrificial altar. At this point, Anri will have already been killed by the pilgrim in the corner of the room in the church, but you will still shove a blade through their chest to finalize everything.
Either way, Anri ends up dying thanks to having a run-in with you. You just get to choose whether they die by your hand or by the hands of Yuria and a pilgrim.
