Just over a year after its release, STALKER 2: Heart of Chornobyl is getting an update that will include a brand new storyline.

In total, the free update will include the following:

8 new quests for questing
7 new locations for exploring
6 new characters for meeting
~~5 golden rings~~

As for what we can expect from the new story, developer GSC Game World did give us a tease.

Strange things start happening near the Malachite on the western part of the map. The research groups sent by scientists were reporting a signal interfering with their usual PDA communications. After listening to it, stalkers were suffering from headaches, nose bleeds, and hallucinations.

Professor Medulin witnessed everything with his own eyes. While being good at scientific research, he didn’t know enough about the radio signal and what to do to figure out what was happening. That’s where Banzai steps in, a radio enthusiast, who also joined the investigation, but something went wrong.

Beyond new story content, the upcoming STALKER 2 update also gives players a new weapon to play with.

The GP37V2 is a modified version of the GP37 riffle, one of the most tactically proficient weapons in the game. Its updated version includes a pre-installed suppression, a low-magnification scope, and a trigger group that supports both single and burst fire modes.

It may have a higher failure rate, but those who master the GP37V2 will be handsomely rewarded.

One of 2024's most pleasant surprises, STALKER 2 recently debuted on PlayStation 5, introducing a new audience to one of the more pleasant post-apocalyptic gaming experiences, performance issues aside. With those performance issues resolved, it's nice to see GSC move forward with new content.

Those looking to dive into the new update will be able to do so when it goes live on December 16th on all platforms. STALKER 2's update coincides with the game going on sale for 40% on the Xbox store. It lasts from today through January 7th. As of now, it is still full price on other platforms.
