Star Fox, the oddly photorealistic remake of Star Fox 64 for the Switch 2, is out today. From the sound of it, the game is pretty much exactly what Nintendo positioned it as: a modernized reimagining of the original game that doesn’t try to fix what’s not broken. However, it does include one funny addition in the form of its Avatar feature, which lets you use a camera to essentially VTube as Fox and friends. With the game having been available for just a few hours, fans are already using it for hijinks.
The Avatars let you swap your face with that of just about any character in Star Fox, whether it be Fox himself or one of his various rivals and companions. The virtual avatars can mimic your expression, including replicating goofy gestures like sticking your tongue out or puffing out your cheeks, which I’m sure everyone is going to use for only good, wholesome reasons.
holy shit it can tell when your tongue is out lmao pic.twitter.com/CIzAMWPGg9

The real viral potential is in folks using them to act out skits or whipping out impressions to make Star Fox characters say wild shit, like this one of Falco being an anti-vaxxer.

I’m looking forward to the funny videos and reaction images we’ll get out of this. I imagine Nintendo anticipated that people would use these avatars for less “brand safe” content, so I’m surprised the company didn’t go the Tomodachi Life route of restricting sharing functionality so no one could post videos of Fox McCloud swearing, or worse.
