Snips and co. won't be returning in 2026 after all
Image: Lucasfilm Ltd.When Ahsoka's first season aired, it became obvious that the finale left the story hanging, rather than being strong enough to stand on its own. Three years later, and Star Wars fans are still waiting for the second half of that story to appear, despite original estimations pointing to Ahsoka season 2 potentially releasing in 2026.
Unfortunately, that's not the case. Rosario Dawson, the star behind the titular protagonist, unveiled at Disney's upfront presentation that the series' second season is set to debut sometime in early 2027.
Ahsoka showrunner and upcoming co-President of Lucasfilm, Dave Filoni, has been hard at work on Ahsoka season 2, with filming taking place between April and October 2025. Lucasfilm announced a second season of Ahsoka on Jan. 9 via a blog post that also revealed the next Star Wars film, The Mandalorian & Grogu.
The end of Ahsoka season one left Ahsoka (Dawson) and Sabine Wren (Natasha Liu Bordizzo) stranded on the planet Peridea, the ancient and desolate original homeworld of the Nightsisters of Dathomir. Ahsoka season two will pick up straight from where season one ended, with Shin (Ivanna Sakhno) hunting Ahsoka and Sabine down. Baylan Skoll, now played by Rory McCann (replacing the late Ray Stevenson) will also play a significant part in the story, though details have yet to be confirmed.
Image: Lucasfilm Ltd.The second part of season 2's storyline, however, will follow the newly escaped Admiral Thrawn (Lars Mikkelsen) as he uses his forces to attack an unprepared New Republic. Thankfully, Thrawn wasn't the only one to return from Peridea — Ezra Bridger (Eman Esfandi) has also returned, reuniting with his fellow Specter, Hera Syndulla (Mary Elizabeth Winstead).
Most exciting of all, however, is the confirmation that Hayden Christensen will also be reprising his role as Anakin Skywalker. Anakin's role in the second season hasn't been defined, but considering the finale ended with him appearing as a Force ghost to keep an eye on Ahsoka and Sabine, we expect he'll play a mentorship role once more for his wayward apprentice.
Exactly when audiences will get to see this play out hasn't been made clear outside an early 2027 date. Star Wars fans have been treated well in 2026 so far, with a beautifully animated and compelling first season of Star Wars - Maul: Shadow Lord, and The Mandalorian & Grogu film just right around the corner. However, the second half of the year is looking awfully sparse without Ahsoka season 2. It appears that fans will need to do another rewatch of Rebels to both pass the time and prepare for whatever the second season of Ahsoka has in store.
