Star Wars: Galactic Racer is a different kind of Star Wars game, trading in its lightsabers and heroics for a story about the seedy underground racing circuit. That opens comparisons to the cult classic Star Wars: Episode 1 Racer, but after getting hands-on, we were much more reminded of another classic racing franchise: Burnout.
In the video below, Jake Dekker explains that the destructive action of Galactic Racer feels like a classic Burnout game. This is not to be confused with Burnout Paradise, since Galactic Racer isn't an open-world racing game. But the takedowns themselves feel pure Burnout, albeit with speeders and speederbikes and swoops instead of cars and motorcycles and trucks. And that makes sense, given that developer Fuse Games was founded by developers from Criterion.
In the video, Jake also outlines the story, explains the Star Wars-like special abilities, and yes, the ability to podrace. Check it out below.
Star Wars: Galactic Racer is coming to PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X on October 6.
