This is the way (to figure out how all these movies and tv shows fit together)

The Mandalorian and Grogu has arrived in theaters. While the movie works perfectly well as its own little standalone adventure, it's always good to know where any Star Wars story takes place within the larger mythology. For The Mandalorian and Grogu, it occurs after the events of The Mandalorian TV series, which follows soon after the original Star Wars trilogy. That's why stories fearing the Mandalorian have so much of that classic Star Wars look and feel, unlike the films of Disney's sequel trilogy, which takes place decades later.

But if you're looking for an even broader view of the Star Wars timeline, we here at Polygon whipped up this handy interactive timeline of every single Star Wars movie and TV show that is considered canon. Beginning with Star Wars: Young Jedi Adventures in 232 BBY and ending with Star Wars: Episode IX – The Rise of Skywalker in 35 ABY.

If you're unfamiliar with how years work in Star Wars, it all centers around the Battle of Yavin, which is the big fight in the original 1977 Star Wars where Luke blows up the Death Star. BBY stands for "Before the Battle of Yavin" and those years run in reverse (just like BC does for us). Meanwhile, ABY stands for "After the Battle of Yavin" and those years run in normal numerical order, like AD does. It can be a little tough to get used to at first, but just remember that everything revolves around the first Star Wars film, just like it should.

Below, see Polygon's interactive Star Wars timeline, accurate up to the addition of Mandalorian and Grogu to canon.
