Stranger Than Heaven is an upcoming action-adventure game from Sega that's connected to the Yakuza series. It got a trailer and January 2027 release date at Summer Game Fest, but that wasn't the most notable thing about its new trailer as it ended with a shot of rapper Tupac in the game.

In case you didn't know, Tupac Shakur died 30 years ago in 1996 at age 25. He's regarded as one of the most influential musicians of all time and has received many posthumous accolades, like a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. In 2012 at Coachella, Snoop Dogg and Dr. Dre performed with a hologram of Tupac, so Stranger Than Heaven isn't the first time Tupac's likeness has been used after his death.

He'll be the second deceased person to be featured in Stranger Than Heaven. Bunta Sugawara, an iconic Japanese actor known for his roles in yakuza movies, will also appear in the game.

Stranger than Heaven will serve as an origin story for the Tojo Clan of Yakuza/Like a Dragon fame. It'll take place across several different time periods in Japan from 1915 to 1965 as it traces protagonist Makoto Daito and his lifelong friend Yu Shinjo rise to the top of Japan's criminal underworld. And it's entertainment industry, of course.

Stranger Than Heaven will be released January 15, 2027 for PlayStation 5, WindowsPC, and Xbox Series X.
